Hi Carol, I just read your post on the message board about Sandy. Did Sandy visit you when we were in the hospital? I ask because, a Sandy stopped by my room and said she was a friend from this web site, was just wondering if this was Sandy Landtrip? Also, I want to tell you how Fantastic you look!!! I took the link to your web site to see your before and after pics, Hope you feel as great as you look! I have lost about 64 lbs. Still have a long way to go.... Started at 394, now down to 330. Its been at least 7 yrs. since i've been this weight. I'm very happy with my decision and the outcome of this surgery, as I know you are too. I have found a support group that meets in Gurnee once a month on tuesday evenings. The group consists of people who have been to Dr Kane's group, BTC in Belvedere, Dr Vitello in Evenston, Dr's from Northwestern in chgo., among others. It's close to home, and is a very nice group of people. I still may try to come back to Elk Grove some time though. Do you ever hear from Jen? I spoke to her on the phone about a month ago, she was getting ready to go back to work. She was also having some issues with food and getting sick. I have been lucky (knock wood)have not thrown up, almost, but got through the discomfort only a couple of times. Anyway, Congratulations on your weight loss, and continue on your journey with much success. Love & Happiness always

Hi Carol, I just saw your post on the message board about the protien powder and the status of your weight loss and progress. You are doing great! I am doing well too. Like you, I'm feeling not so energetic though, I should try the protien powder and see if that helps. I've lost 45 lbs so far, I did'nt take my measurements, but my pants are getting a bit saggy. Have you been to the support group yet? I'm gonna try to make the next one. Any way glad your feeling and doing well! Best Wishes.....

I got home yesterday, and I am now 5 days post-op. Surgery was lap and took 1.5 hours. I was afraid but comforted by family and friends that stayed with me right up to surgery time. When I came out of surgery it was late, about 11 PM and the first thing I noticed was my faithful husband sleeping in the chair at my side, refusing to leave me that night. The second thing of importance to me was the attention the nurses were giving me even at that hour. I was taught how to push the morphine button and how often, and I took full advantage of it! Mr. Morphine and I had a time of bonding that night ;) It gave me a twilight type of relaxation that enabled me to sleep about an hour at a time until morning. I think I experienced more discomfort then actual pain. Pain management was excellent. For the next couple of days I attempted to walk as much as I could, met up with my surgery buddies (Jen and Lori on the same floor) and spent time trying to use the spirometer as much as possible. My thoughts drifted often to, "I can't believe I am on the otherside" and "Did I really do this??". As I walked a bit more, a would feel a smile creep across my face as I heard the sound of my own voice say, "Yep kiddo, you sure did, congratulations on having the courage of your convictions. Welcome back to the land of the living." I knew that the "Land of the Living" in my mind was the Land where I used to ski, golf, enjoy good health, and climb mountains. Each time I felt a tear roll down my cheek. I can't thank you all for listening to me, encouraging me the many times I needed it, for all the wonderful prayers and words of support on my surgical page, and AMOS for being what we all need to get through this. A huge THANK YOU to my angel's: JoH, Lori G, and Karen. Each of them lending in to support me in different ways. I felt the peace of God as they wheeled me in, and the last thing I said to myself is, "I can feel the prayers of God's people...I'm ready." I want to take a moment to thank the Weight For Life Group out of the Chicago/Elk Grove area for the wonderful care I received, from the testing stages to the surgical team of Dr. Kane Jr. and the other three surgeons in the group. Not one stone was left unturned. The professionalism, caring, meticulous care I received and a team of doctors I doubt could be surpassed. 35 years experience in the Bariatric field gave me great comfort. Now...on with the show! ;)

I had a nice conversation with Carol today (shame on me for making her laugh.."haha..ow..haha..ow") She is in great spirits and doing super. She was slurping her popsicle in my ear, which I loved hearing. I'm very proud of her, she's a tough gal. She sends sincere thanks for all the prayers and support she received from folks here. I hope she never finds out that I paid them each a dollar!
