My name is Jill and I am a single mom of two great kids. I have always been a larger person, but never quite as obese as I became over the last 10 years.
In 1995, my first son, Joseph, passed away from Leukemia and then due to differing religious viewpoints on the "whys" of his death, my husband of 8 years left me. At the time, I was weighing between 210 and 220. Looking pretty good but could have lost about 30 pounds to look great. My life took a downward turn though, and the pounds started to pile on.
Then in late 1999, I became pregnant with my daughter. I gained 75 pounds with the pregnancy and never lost it all. At delivery, I weighed in at 320 pounds. 10 months after her birth I had only lost 30 pounds when I found out I was pregnant again even though I was getting the Depo shots. This last pregnancy piled on more weight, and at delivery I weighed in at 388 pounds, January 2002.
I lost down to 270 following the Atkins Diet within a year and was well on my way to getting back to a healthier me when in October 2003, the children's father, abused our daughter. The following few months, I made sure my daughter got the counseling she needed, but comforted myself with food. My weight crept back up to 335.
I then tried LA Weight Loss and lost down to 275, but dropped out of the program and gained back up to 355.
In October 2005, my insurance decided they would begin covering RNY WLS in January of 2006. I knew that this was the decision I needed to make to ensure I am here to see my kids grow up. And so in January 2006, the journey began.
