Wow, 5 1/2 months today!

Jul 14, 2011

Really crazy stuff... losing this weight. My head still hasn't caught up to where my body is! I look at clothing at the thrift shop and keep pulling out 16 and 14 sizes... when I'm in 10s!! I look in the mirror sometimes and can't believe that's me. I have lost a total of 167 pounds. Amazing. Had to have my gallbladder out last week because it was hyperfunctioning. It was hurting so much the week before that I had gone into the ER. I then had to go in to Nuclear Medicine for a HIDA scan. Turns out it was funcitoning at like 98% which is just as bad as functioning at like 2%.  So, that puppy is gone. Dr. Brown took it out  on 7/5. I am still sore as hell. A lot more sore than I remember being from the VSG. Totally weird. I'm taking it easy per doc's orders. Go back to see Dr. Schumacher and his cute PA, Jarod in a couple weeks. Really, I can't wait! I absolutely adore my doc and his PA.Would recommend them to anyone!!

3 months and 50 pounds later...

Apr 30, 2011

Well, it's my 3 month surgiversary tomorrow... can't believe it! It went by so fast... I guess time flies when you're 49! My daughter came into town for a visit this weekend and hadn't seen me since pre-surgery. She was amazed at how much different I look! I love it!

Have been spending a lot of time dwelling on food... just like I used to, but now, it's different. I am always on the look out for low cal, low carb, high protein meals! My family has been on a diet with me without even knowing it!! LOL! I spend a lot of time cruising Eggface's website (theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com) and modifying her recipes to make my own stuff. I still absolutely LOVE cooking, much to my excitement!!

Went to the BMV to get my license renewed yesterday and the woman that took my old license from me said, "Oh my gosh, you don't even LOOK LIKE you!!" She called other workers over to look at my license and then at me! It was embarrassing, but FUN! She said, "Looks like we're gonna have to change your weight for your new license!" I was grinning ear-to-ear.

I get up every day thinking how lucky I am to have had this surgery. It has changed my life. I am no longer waiting to hear that I have developed DIabetes. I am no longer on Lipitor. I am no longer on Maxzide (for high BP). I can walk without panting and huffing and puffing. I can ride a BIKE!!! Never thought I'd do that ever again!! I get stares from men and smiles from strangers. People really talk to me. It's amazing.

If anyone reading this is considering surgery... DO IT! Best thing I ever did for myself!

Decision for WLS Aug 2010

Feb 26, 2011

I have yo-yo'd between 246 and 195 for the past 18 years of my life. I was always an active, backpacking, hiking, SCUBA diving, swimming, caving person. Always a tomboy. At 48, I find that I can't do anything except swim. I went hiking with my much thinner friend and couldn't keep up with her at all. My health is horrible, I suffer from Fibromyalgia, migraines, arthritis in my back, neuropathy, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and am borderline diabetic!!

When my friend, Kelley, was checking into WLS, I listened to what she was finding out about and began to get interested myself. I never thought i was a candidate for WLS. Thought I wasn't heavy ENOUGH. HA!! I went to a doctor's appointment and a WLS seminar with Kelley and had signed on for the journey in August 2010 at 224 pounds.
