One-year post-op

Jan 31, 2012

It is amazing what a year can do!  WLS was one of the best decisions I've made in my life...  I have lost over 126 lbs since surgery and down 150 lbs total from my highest.  I haven't had any real complications other than occasional diarrhea if I eat something with too many sugars per serving and early on I threw up a few times by eating too fast and/or not chewing enough.  I was able to walk quite a bit in the summer months, but I haven't really exercised in the last few months.  I cannot wait for spring to arrive so I can get outside once again to walk!  Continuing my exercise program is a must for me to keep the weight off.

I went from a size 28 pants to a size 12 and a 3x shirt to a 16.  My immediate goal is to lose another 4 lbs over the next few months with my ultimate goal to lose 9 more lbs which I hope to do by the 18 month post-op mark...

9 months [39 weeks] post op and doing well...

Oct 28, 2011

It's been 9 months today since surgery and I am pleasantly pleased to say I've lost 115.2 lbs since surgery and lost a grand total of 138.4 lbs!  It is amazing what one year can do for/to you!  I am about 25 lbs away from my goal of 155 and hope to reach that at the 1 year surgiversary date of 01/28/2012.  I am finding it really hard to get in exercise now that the weather has cooled off considerably.  I was walking about 3-5 miles a day outside and now I don't really walk!  I really need to start though - or go on the treadmill and/or use the Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus.  Hope everyone else is having similar success as me!

27 weeks post op...and in ONEderland!!!!!!!!

Aug 05, 2011

I am 27 weeks post-op today and finally in the 100s!  It is so exciting to be under 200 lbs - a place I haven't been in over 20 years!  I am aiming to loose another 40+ lbs over the next few months and hit MY goal of 155.  Walking is really helping me and I was even able to jog a bit during my walk yesterday.  I hope everyone else is having the same results as I am!

24 weeks post op...

Jul 14, 2011

I haven't posted in 12 weeks - but not because things are going badly - but because I am now moving better than ever and really don't sit at the computer all that much anymore!  I am 24 weeks post op today and happy to report that I have lost 90.2 lbs since then and a grand total of 113.4!  I would have never believed this was possible if I didn't witness this firsthand.  The only downside is that I need to start taking a protein supplement as I am not getting enough in on a daily basis and my labs showed that.  I also need to take potassium as that's a bit low and my "NEW" doctor can't figure out why.  All other labs are okay so my current medication regimin is working.  My 45th birthday is next week and I am hoping to be under 200 lbs by then (only 5 more lbs to go) - but if it doesn't happen by then, I know it will eventually.

12 weeks post-op

Apr 22, 2011

It's been 12 weeks since surgery and I am feeling great!  Granted, I am still trying to get in all my liquids and protein and do the best I can, but am still falling a bit short on my daily quotas!  I am exercising about 3x/week doing both cardio and weight training.  I have lost 47.2 lbs since surgery and a grand total of 70.4 lbs!  I REALLY want to lose 50 lbs at the 3 month mark, but not sure if I can lose another 3 lbs in the next week...

3 weeks post -op....

Feb 18, 2011

I'm 3 weeks post-op and feeling pretty darn good!  I've lost 21 pounds in these 3 weeks and that feels amazing!  Yes, the first 24-36 hours after surgery wasn't pleasant, but after that it's been a breeze.  I've had to write everything down so I know when to take my meds (vitamins, etc.) and how much fluid I've had and when I've eaten.  It feels weird to not be hungry, but know that I need to eat something!  The pain wasn't too intense - since I've been home (I was discharged just 24 hours after recovery), I've only had to take 1 tylenol and that was the first night home.  After two weeks, I was in the pool walking and in another 10 days I can restart my exercise program with the weights.  I am so excited that I am regaining MY life back and look forward to all the things I will be able to do once another 50+ pounds are gone...not to mention when I lose 100+!  I can hardly wait!

See you on the LOSING side...

Jan 27, 2011

It's almost here!  We leave for the hotel in a few hours.  I have to be at the hospital at 6:15 a.m., so we're staying at a hotel close to the hospital (we live about 1 hour away).  I should be done with the surgery around noon and in my room by 2ish. I am a little nervous, but know this is the right decision.  See everyone on the losing side of things!

Just one more week, 7 short days, and my WLS will be just finishing up!  I can hardly wait!  I want to be on the losing side of things so badly.  I need this medical intervention to help me start living again.

15 days...

Jan 13, 2011

We're scheduled to have surgery in 15 days.  I would expect to hear from the surgeon's office in the next few days that our insurance has approved this.  This is the last hurdle...  Our pre-admission testing is next Wednesday, so I would assume we would hear before then.
