17 Weeks Post Op, out of the 220's!

May 31, 2017

So this morning the scale read 219.2.  I did it; I am out of the 220's and in the 2-teens; yay!

I lost 4.2 Lbs this week; why?  I have no idea.  I have actuallly been eating more calories, in the form of protein, and I didn't exercise every day, although I did get a lot of exercise in, including a 3 hour walk, 70 minutes of laps, and a bike ride, along with a shorter walk.

I did start taking my pill to protect my tummy again; I ran out over a week ago and had to wait until I could afford to refill it; so maybe that helped?  It's supposed to be covered on my insurance, but only if my doctor fills out a form for me, and he still hasn't done it so I've been paying out of pocket for the last two prescriptions.  The first few months were a different prescription of the same med; a dissolvable one, which wasn't covered, but this new version of the med...a capsule, is covered, so I hope he'll fill the forms out soon.  I'm on a fixed income and every bit helps.

I had a great NSV this week.  I went for blood work, and the technician was able to find blood the first time she tried, which never happens.  Last time, they jabbed me 12 or 13 times and it was a huge ordeal that left me bruised up and down both arms and hands, and I was dreading it, but this time, the lady (named Kim) got it in one shot.  I don't know if it was because i've lost so much weight, because i was super hydrated, or if she's just that good, but I will be requesting Kim in the future.

Another NSV; I went to the beauty salon the other day and had my hair washed, trimmed, and blow dried.  It looked really cute and the hair dresser helped me select products to protect my hair from the chlorine and salt in the pool.  My hair was getting so bad it was like one big clump of hair instead of strands, so hopefully the new shampoo and condiitioner will help. She also recomended a spray on conditioner, but they were out so I"ll have to go back.  It was nice pampering myself like that, but like I said, I'm on a fixed income so the next day I was mad at myself for not doing what I normally do, which is wash my hair at home, get it trimmed, and leave with wet hair; which costs a fraction of the cost.

After getting my hair done, I went to Walmart to pick up my prescription, and ended up trying on some clothes.  Many items in size XL fit, including two pairs of shorts.  I didn't buy them because it's not warm out yet and they were actually...gasp...a bit big on the waist!  OMG.  Some tops in XL fit too, but I already have a top in XL so it wasn't as big a shock as the shorts. I bought one "cold shoulder" top.  I'm not sure if I like it very much, lol. I do like the color (pink) but not sure about the cold shoulder look or the shoter sleeves. I also bought some new running shoes and a new burgandy bra (to wear with the cold shoulder top; it looked better with burgandy straps than it did with the white or gray straps).   So now I have 3 short sleeved tops that fit me, 2 long sleeved tops that fit me, and 1 top that is a bit big.  I got rid of all of my tops sized 3-5X except for a few that I kept as nightgowns, lol.

I have 3 pairs of leggings that fit, and need to get some capris.  I wore my old size 2X capris bike riding the other day and they were OK but so loose that my butt kept sliding around on the seat.  The look OK though; not like legging style capris, which is what they should be (tight), but like regular track pant style capris...loose and baggy.  I need to find some capris but haven't found any I like yet.  The ones I tried on were made of slidy, hot, slick fabric, which I hate.

I'm thrilled to fit in a size XL in most things; it is GREAT to leave the 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, and 5X behind.  I can't wait to get into the size Large; maybe in another month or two?

I've been eating a LOT of meat, and really loving my steak.  My Dad has been grilling food on the BBQ and steak and extra lean burger patties have been my go to meals all weekend and week so far. The steak goes down a lot better than the burgers for some reason.  The burgers are more filling though.  I am going to ask Dad to grill some chicken too, although I still need to add sauce to my chicken as it's too dry for my pouch if I eat it plain and gives me a stomach ache.  I also need to go buy more shrimp, as I"m almost out. I love shrimp, and it goes down so easily.  I havent' tried salmon since I got sick after eating it, and I have 3 more servings of it, one from the same package, plus a whole other package. It's frozen.  I much prefer the fresh caught fish, but my parents went fishing and only caught some pike, which they let go as it's too bony.  They only keep the pickeral or perch, which is yummy.  I love it, but am not allowed to go fishing with them as I feel too sorry for the fish if I see them alive and always let them go, lol.

As a former vegetarian, this menu is hard on my emotions, but my mouth and stomach are loving it.

Oh, I forgot to mention, while I was shopping I found some calorie free coffee flavorings. I bought the chocolate caramel, which comes in at 0 calories/carbs/sugars.  I've only had two cups of decaff since surgery; both cups at the big family wedding reception.  I may make some today, but am worried it may be too hard on my pouch to drink regularly. I just want to try the flavoring.  I know I can't have coffee with caffeine, but was told caffeine free is OK.  But I've read the acid in coffee, even caffeine free, can be hard on pouchs, and I REALLY don't want an ulcer.

OK, I've written a book so I should stop.  If anyone is reading this, I hope you have a great day!
