New Excalibur Food Dehydrator!

Jun 29, 2017

I bought myself a little 4 tray Excalibur food dehydrator and made my first batch of beef jerky, plus some zucchini chips.

I'm new at this, so I think I over-dried my jerky, but it still tastes really good.

My zucchini chips though, turned out GREAT.  I used my cheapo dollar store mandolin, which works wonderfully, to cut the zucchini into thin chips, lightly salted some, added both salt and pepper to some, and dehydrated them overnight.  They both taste great but I prefer the salt and pepper chips better.

I also put in some berries last night, but they aren't ready yet.

I'm very happy with my little dehydrator!  I'm going to try Kale and carrot chips next!

I think it's great that I can make healthy snacks, and also save foods before they go bad.  I always buy ginger for tea and can never use it all before it starts to turn; now I can dehdrate them.  Same with onions; they always sprout on me because I can't use them fast enough.  That's fine in the spring; my Dad just plants them in the garden, but in the winter they go to waste.

I ordered Excalibur's food dehydrating recipe book on Ebay and can't wait til it comes in.  In the meantime, I'm watching lots of YouTube videos, reading blogs, and having a blast.  I love this little machine.
