22 Weeks Post OP, down 98.8 Lbs!
Jul 05, 2017
I am only 1.2 Lbs away from losing 100 Lbs, and only 5.3 Lbs away from Onederland.
When I woke up this morning, I weighed 205.2 Lbs. My starting weight was 304 Lbs the day I started Optifast, the protein shake my surgeon had me go on in order to shrink my liver.
Last week I weighed in at 209.8, so that's a whopping 4.6 Lb loss for the week. I haven't seen numbers like that in quite some time; I usually average around 2 to 2.5 Lbs lost per week.
I had a few lethargic days where I didn't feel well and didn't do anything, followed by super active days where I worked my butt off walking or bike riding. I can't remember if I swam more than once.
On Canada Day, my friend Albert and I walked for 3 hours, then went to watch fireworks. Here we are, below, on our walk by the river.
The next day I rode my bike for 18 km.
Yesterday I rode my bike for just under 30 km! I actually rode right out of town, lol, to the next Township, and then out past the airport to Mark's Bay, a small beach that is only 5 km before the campground I plan to stay at. I went there and back with only a 10 minute break at the beach because I left the house late (7 PM), thinking it was an hour earlier because the watch on my bike had stopped, and it was only when I checked my smartphone that i realized the correct time. By then I was already at Mark's Bay and the sun was setting; oops. I have lights and reflectors on my bike so I was OK, but the mosquitoes come out at dusk so that wasn't fun, lol. Here are some photos of my ride:
Here's my bike in the above photo, on Base Line, the long road that made up the majority of my trip before I had to turn off onto Airport Road for a few (about 6) more kilometers. I hopped off to take a few photos.
The above photo shows the Airport sign, and the driveway to the airport. The last time I was out there was on my way to and from surgery, almost 100 Lbs ago. I NEVER would have guessed as I last passed that sign in my Dad's truck that I'd be cycling past it a mere 22 weeks later.
Here's my bike at Mark's Bay. It was already sunset, so I just sat for about 10 minutes and had some watermelon; it was yummy. I have a Bento box type thing that has a frozen base and it kept the watermelon so nice and cold.
Here's a view of the bay. The mosquitoes came out, but sure beats the bears coming out, lol. I was worried because last week my friend saw a bear at this spot one day, a moose another day. I love animals but am a bit worried about seeing them while on my bike. I feel much safer in my truck, lol. I sang all the way down the road into the park to warn any potential animals that I was coming so I wouldn't startle them and trigger a fear or aggression response, but luckily the only ones out there were human, lol. Probably thought I was nuts.
This was the view in my rearview mirror (not literally; I turned to get the shot). So pretty. I wished I was facing the sunset as I rode, instead of heading the other way, but I needed to get home.
Last but not least, here is a pretty shot of the moon over a field. I love how nice and fresh everything smells at sunset. I wonder why things smell better at night; is it because the air cools?
Today my butt and neck hurt, which leads me to believe that longer bike rides are a real pain in the butt and pain in the neck, lol. Surprisingly, my legs are just fine. I was able to cycle up every rolling hill without stopping to walk the bike, which was a big surprise, and made me super happy. They weren't steep hills but some of them were long. I just put the bike in granny gear and looked down at the pavement so I couldn't see how far I had to go up the hills, and it worked. Miraculously, my asthma was fine.
Today I plan to go for a nice relaxing swim, sit in the hot tub for a bit, then do some shopping. I need one more summer top because I only have 2 that fit me right; my other short sleeved ones are OK for walks but no good for bike riding as they are now too big and the wind blows them open and gives people a show, lol. I also need to get a camp pad so I have something a bit cushier than the ground to sleep on when I go camping.
The beach I went to yesterday is only 5 km away from the beach I plan to bike camp at, so totally doable. In fact, if I take a day instead of going on a quick evening ride, I'm sure I could just go there and back in a day without a problem as it would end up being a 40 km ride instead of a 30 km ride, but I think it will be fun to camp out, go for a swim, hang out in my new tent. I just wish I had someone to go with, as I've never tented out alone. There will be other people at the campground though, so I should be fine.
