Leigh, you are doing awesome! I understand about the sugar cravings. I sometimes think I'm going to have to have my sugar demon surgically removed from my back! I have found that buying the sugar free candies helps me with my cravings without making me crave more. Try the new Reese's sugar free peanut butter cups and the Lifesavers sugar free butter toffees. Also, Blue Bunny Krunch Lite ice cream bars are great! Hang in there, girlfriend, you'll get there!

Drum roll please......40 lbs lost and finally under the 200# mark!! I am so happy. I am still very scared to eat stuff other than soft veggies and soup. I am so afraid that I will be sick again and have another bowel stricture. The dr said it would be very unlikely that I would have another, but the fear of being sick again like that is terrible. Some days I do very good, then like yesterday, I was eating some steak & potatoe soup and my second bite got stuck. I have been VERY careful to chew...chew...chew.... but it still happened. It took about 20 minutes to get the pain to pass and it went on down. I would burp just a little and the pain would ease up for a split second and then get worse. I would try to burp again and almost throw up. It continued for 20 minutes! Today, everything has gone fine. I even ate 1/2 biscuit with turkey & cheese. I took it very slow and it was fine. I guess I will have to get used to taking it very slow and try new things all along...if the fear will let me! Well, at 199#, I am wearing a size 20 jeans but my 1x shirts are getting big. I just wish my tummy would hurry up and fall off along with my boobs! I did go from a 42DD to between a 42D-40D! Panties from a 10 to a 8. I am still very glad I did this and would do it all again (except the sickness with the bowel problem). Thank you for the encouragement and the support!

Well, today is 5 weeks out and I just got home from the hospital. Sunday morning I had emergency surgery to correct a bowel stricture. I am doing MUCH better and will start the recovery period over. They were able to go in Lap through most of the other incisions so I am grateful for that. Sunday, I wouldn't have cared if they had to cut my right arm off to get it fixed. I had been cramping, burning in my stomach and nauseated with vomitting for over 12 hours! I felt like death would be welcomed! The drs were great and I will take it a lot slower this time. Let my body heal before jumping into day to day life again. Bending over seems to be a no-no for a while. Anyways, I'm at home feeling better and so far about 30 lbs down. Take care and don't rush recovery...even though the dishes are dirty and clothes need to be washed. Tell the husband or children to help!! Love you all...Leigh

Well, I am 5 days out and already bored of chicken broth! I am fighting head hunger already. I keep thinking...if only I could have mashed potatoes (my comfort food)! I feel good. Still sore but the gas & diarrhea is the worst problem. I am so bloated and when I move or lie down, then the gurgles and bubbles began moving about. Bought some beef broth and jello to try to fight the boredom. Crystal Lite I hate. The aftertaste is terrible. So after only 5 days and down 10 lbs....YES I would do it again (even with the gas & diarrhea problems)! I had surgery on Tuesday and was home on Thursday afternoon. Hubby is taking wonderful care of me and coaching me on taking pain meds and drinking my water!! Just wanted to say thanks to all of you that posted on my surgery page. It was great to come home and have my hubby read them all to me! God has blessed me in so many ways and answered my prayers concerning this surgery. Thanks for all the prayers and support! God bless all of you!

My best wishes to you on your upcoming surgery. I hope all goes well for you and that you have a speedy, problem free recovery. My husband and I BOTH had our open rny's at Pacific Bariatric in 2001. I had mine in June and have lost 110 lbs with about 30 more to go. My husband had his in Oct. 2001 and has lost 215 lbs and is at goal. We both have the greatest respect for all of the doctors at PB and the staff too. We had the best treatment from our surgeon, Dr. Rumsey. He is fantastic!!! We also had great treatment at Scripps/Mercy hosp. The staff there is well trained and they take good care of you. Good luck to you on your journey to the losing side!!

Leigh, many good wishes and warm thoughts are being sent your way as you begin your journey to a new and healthy life! I am almost 5 months out and have lost 70 lbs., feel so much better, take so much less medication, and feel it was all worth it. The toughest part is the first 8 weeks, healing from the surgery and learning how to eat, once you pass that mark, you will feel terrific. Just remember, WALK, WALK, WALK, DRINK, DRINK, DRINK, and PROTEIN, PROTEIN, PROTEIN!!
