Hello OH blog

Feb 20, 2017

I'm done with my pre - op testing (I hope).  Had to see a Psychologist - 2 visits.  Saw the GI Doctor for EGD with H-Pylori biopsi.  Went ahead and had a colonoscopy with the EGD.  GI found a hiatal hernia but I didn't have H-pylori.  Didn't have to do a sleep study and haven't been made go for cardiac clearance.  Fingers crossed that I'll get to skip all of that.

So .... I've cleared all my hurdles and I'm waiting on Surgeon's office to call me to schedule surgery.  I want to have it April 10 or sometime during that week.  I travel for work a few times a year and I have a business trip planned for March 8 - 11.  I figure March 11 - April 9 will give me plenty of time to do whatever diet they prescribe for the pre-op liver shrinking phase.

I started my inquiry on January 17 by attending a seminar at Lexington Hospital.  I had pretty much made up my mind after the seminar when I saw the mechanics of how VSG surgery works.  I like how they say VSG is a tool but you have to commit to doing a good bit of the work.  I didn't want to hear that it would solve all of my problems.  I know it won't.  I cannot stand false advertising.  I guess I feel that I wanted to hear it would improve my odds of getting to a normal bmi but I'd have to use some will power and self discipline of my own to be successful.  I can deal with a difficulty if I anticipate it first.

I do have a few fears ....

1) The Surgery and Hospitalization itself

2) The liquid diet phase

3) Breaking my bad diet habits

4) Changing my beliefs about food

5) Challenges with dealing with "Fat Brain"

6) Loose Skin

7) Changes in dynamics with my family and friends

8) Losing my fat barrier.  Believe it or not, being fat keeps folks away and that's just fine because I have trust issues.

A few good things I'm anticipating happening after surgery

1) More energy

2) Improved confidence

3) Being more social --- I've been sequestered away in my house as much as my friends and family will allow

4) Being able to pursue my hobbies and activities (Scuba, tennis, volunteering at the animal shelter, travel)

5) Clothes that look good (I've been wearing tents for a long time)

6) Seeing my business grow

7) Spending less money on food and medical

8) Taking less medicine

Signing off for now.  Good night.  Lourie
