5 Months Out

Mar 09, 2011

As of today, I am shy by one pound to my half-way point.  I needed to loose 88 pounds.  I know, I'm a light weight, but it's been a long, long time since I have felt like a light weight.  I am 5 months out of surgery and I feel fantastic.  To me losing feels so slow.  I would have loved to have awaken from surgery and been at goal...LOL  but I fully realize that wasn't possible.  Remember the TURTLE wins the race!!!!!   Yippeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

11 Days Out

Oct 22, 2010

I'm on the losers bench!!!!  The first week was a little rough.  The best thing I think that helped me was to make sure I got in my protein and fluids and walking since day 1.  I'm in the middle of the second week and I feel great!!!  So thankful that the hiatal hernia was fixed.  I never realized how much pressure was in my chest due to the hernia.  Dr. Antonetti described it as "gigantic".  It's day 11 and I've lost 15.8 pounds!!!!   I just keep looking into the future and am so excited about where I will be 6 months from now.  I wish all my sleevers much love and support!!!!

Chronic Gastritis

Sep 26, 2010

On September 20 I had the EGD.  This is my 4th one in a year.  I have known about my hiatial hernia for years.  I also knew that I had Barrett's Esophagus.  I knew that I had had bleeding ulcers in the past which caused me to be anemic.  Now my surgeon tells me I have chronic gastritis and the lining of my stomach is abnormal and inflamed.  He took a biopsy and I should get the results in about 10 days.  For me, this continues to confirm that my stomach has always been an issue and will continue to be.  I strongly feel the VSG is for me on many different levels.

My paperwork was submitted to the insurance on Wednesday, September 23 without the results of the biopsy  Let's see how long it takes to hear the verdict.

Another step done

Sep 16, 2010

I visited my primary care physician this morning.  I told him that I was pursuing WLS and that I would need a letter of recommendation.  He asked me several times, "Is this really what you want to do?"  I quickly replied, "Yes, most definitely.  I've done my research, this isn't a spur of the moment decision, I am confident in my decision."  I told him that my surgeons office felt that I would be scheduled in October.  He said he would be very surprised if it would happen so soon.  Insurance companies don't move that fast, he said.  I do pray that he's big-time wrong.  The last thing that I have to do is have an EDG on Monday.  Everything else is done!!!  I'm sure there will be some pre-op stuff right before the surgery, but as far as doing all that I have to do to get approved will be done.  I'm really, really hoping for an October 12 date.  Wish on the stars and send up some prayers....... I'M READY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Psych Evaluation

Sep 12, 2010

Dr. Stapleton was awesome!!!  She says I'm a perfect candidate for WLS!!!  Go figure!!!  I was a little nervous going to see her.  I was preparing myself to hear, "I'm sorry, but I think you need to do extensive therapy before you consider this option."  I'm so glad to have verbal confirmation that this is a good decision for me.  This coming week, I have an appointment with my Family Doc to request his approval.  This shouldn't be a big deal.  Then on Monday, September 20 the EDG.  I've had so many of these (at least 5 in the past 2 years) that the only thing that I find inconvenient is having to find someone to take me there and pick me up.  I keep saying that I can drive myself, but no one will let me......LOL  I'm hoping after the EDG, Dr. Antonetti will give me a surgery date.  I'M READY!!!!!!

Going through the process

Aug 28, 2010

Hi !!! My name is Kim and I'm 50 years old.  I had been researching bariatric surgery for about 2 years now.  When I turned 50 in July, I said to myself "THIS IS IT!! I'M DOING IT FOR ME!!!"  So, I attended the seminar earlier this month.  I met with the Dr. Antonetti the following day.  I'm going to need an EDG so that he knows what he will be working with.  This is scheduled for September 20.  I have my Psych evaluation on September 7.  I have an appointment with my Family Doc on September 16.  At this time we are looking at surgery in October.  I'm so excited!!!

Is there anyone else out there who has had or is going to be having the sleeve proceedure that is in my general area??  I'd really like to know about your experience.
