I started Weight Watchers at age 15 and lost 15 lbs to get to 135.  I don't think I'll be there again.  Two babies later I had gained to 195 lbs and was diagnosed with Type II diabetes in 1998.  Since then I have lost and gained weight many times with just about every diet program out there.  In 2012 I was down to 160 through diet and exercise and off all meds.  But gained most back over the last few years.  I was having trouble with keeping blood sugar in check and had to take more of all meds.  I couldn't get my eating under control like before either.  My doctor approved the surgery in 2017 and my insurance approved as well due to family history of diabetes.  One sibling is at 30% kidney function.  Another had RNY 10 years ago and has maintained weight loss.  I knew I needed the help of the surgery to get healthy again and lose the weight to improve diabetes.  I came through surgery with little pain and was able to progress through food easily.  I did have issues with beef and coffee but am able to eat and stay hydrated.  The surgeon followed a "Enhanced recovery protocol"  that allowed a shorter liquid diet prior to surgery and limited pain meds after.  I took Tylenol for pain along with a pill for inflammation and one for nerve pain but only for 3 days after surgery.  I had a hysterectomy in 1990 and this was a breeze compared to that.

I still tend to obsess over food but no longer have that grazing drive to eat something round the clock.
