My life since surgery....

Jul 20, 2018

Life since surgery... where do I start? My gastric bypass surgery was 03/05/2018. I'm happy to say that I have not been sick one time since surgery. I went into surgery knowing that this was my one shot to get it right. I told myself that I was going to do everything in my power to follow the plan so that I could hopefully avoid problems along the way.

I've been asked many times that if I had it to do all over again, would I? Let me say "Yes" that I would 100% definitely do it again as it is giving me my life back. Before surgery I weighed 324.6 pounds and was out of shape, everything hurt and I was short of breath with little exertion. I could not do the things that I loved doing when I was younger and smaller...I felt that if I didn't do something about my condition that my health and quality of life would keep on deteriorating.

Since my surgery I have lost 82 pounds and am so excited about the future. I won't say that it has been easy, but, it has truly helped me being on this website reading everyones stories, seeing before and after photos and checking out the forums when I have a question about something going on with me.

I truly wish everyone great success in your journey. Thanks for the much needed inspiration and motivation. :)

Starting my journey...

Jan 04, 2017

Happy New Year! 2017 marks the start of my journey to a new and improved me.  I am excited to be starting on the road to my gastric bypass surgery.  Being recently diagnosed with diabetes the past year has given me much time for reflection.  Currently I take 8 medications for depression, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep and diabetes. I have sleep apnea and in 2016 I turned 50 years old.  With turning 50 came the feeling of being totally overwhelmed as I felt like my life was truly spinning out of control.  I am not able to do the things I did when I was younger.  I have always been on the heavy side only now I have trouble with doing activities such as walking.  I am a photographer and have missed doing my photography due to my inability to be active.  So, that's me in a nutshell.

I have my initial consultation with the surgeon 02/03/17.  I am definitely ready to get the ball rolling.  I know that the road to a new me will not be an easy road, but, seeing all of the before and after pictures and posts on this site definitely inspires me.  I want my life back and want to be healthy and active again.

Until next time,

Shirley
