Hi! My name is Angela and I am a married mother of 5 fantastic kids ages 21,20, 17, and 7 year old twins. I began this journey about 14 months ago when I realized that because of physical limitations I could not lose weight the conventional way. I was a state worker in a forensically involved treatment center for the intellectually challenged and developmentally disabled back in 2010. I was attacked by a client while 12 weeks pregnant with my twins which resulted in my back being broken and my ankle was shattered. Fast forward to January 2011, I gave birth via c-section to two healthy, beautiful baby girls. I then 6 weeks post partum had open back surgery. At the time of my back surgery I had lost all of my baby weight plus 1 pound and was 140 lbs. After that surgery, ankle reconstruction in November 2012, a battle with cancer that resulted in a hysterectomy and bladder repair, and numerous injections, procedures and neck surgery for a herniated disc compressing my spinal cord coming up a month after my VSG; I am currently 256.4 lbs. At my highest weight I was 265. I have needed double knee replacement for over 5 years (due to my gaited walk since my back and ankle surgeries) and refused to have it until I lost weight because seriously, that would have been moot at this point. So, after I have the VSG and lose majority of the weight I have gained I am hoping to finally get my knees fixed. I cannot wait to be able to exercise again and play with my children. Unlike most people I have encountered on this journey I did not have a weight problem prior to my work related injury. I was very fit and athletic. My body has transformed into someone I do not know and am not comfortable with and I am taking the steps to change that. Thanks!!!
