Hi, my name is Dean. I am 55 years old. I have lived in the great state of Washington all my life. I love being married   (35 years) to my beautiful, but also quite large (302 lbs) wife. We have 6 grandchildren, 3 kids of our own. 36, 32, and 30. I have officially been disabled since 2013. I lost my job because I could no longer safely drive bus. Imagine this: your driving down hill, and gravity pulls your body down hill leaning heavily on the steering wheel. I can no longer turn the wheel because I'm leaning on it so hard. If there were to be a corner or turn at the bottem of the hill, bad things can happen. I mean things that make the front page of the local newspaper.

i wasn't always big. I wrestled in high school and played football @ 119 lbs. When I married I weighed 132. I worked at the YMCA as a fitness leader in the pool. Life guard, master's swim team, swim instructor for babies through adults. I was the organizer   of a group of us that used to meet at the "Y" and race walk during our lunch break 5 days a week. Life was good! At 25 I started drinking heavily. I had drank before 25 yrs old, but not the way I did later in life (45-53 yrs old) in particular. My beverage of choice was steel reserve beer. A 6 pack of 16 ers was not uncommon, in fact that was the norm. I munched on about 3500 empty calories a day and drank another 1800 calories. Easily over 5000 a day. To sum this up, at 53 years old I hit my HW of 438. I had my 1st heart attack at 44 and 2 more since then. A stroke just over a year ago has got me trying to turn things around. I have quit drinking all alcohol, 2 years ago, I quit smoking cigs 7 years ago, and the hardest of all , I quit coffee!  I'm looking forward to 2 things, having a lap for my grandies to sit on, and to be able to reach my thingy so I can pee standing up!

As of this writing (4/27/16) I have been approved by medicare for surgery. I have been to a seminar, 1st matrix( instructions, what ifs etc) photo (before pic) and vitals, and so on. I have done my EKG, cardiologist's clearence as a low risk surgical patient. Gave enough blood for the 13 tests that are needed etc. Next Tuesday (5/3) I go back for matrix #2, psych eval, meet w/ nutricianist and the unknowns. I've been keeping a food log for about a week so far.  I have many things left to do pre-op, including a colonoscopy. I've never had one, and not looking forward to it either! My wife hasn't even ever been THAT close to me before. lol

I am in the infant stages of this journey. I have been reading everything on here that I can. This looks like a great source of info and support that I'll undoubtedly become depentent on.
