Made it through the big day!

Sep 21, 2011

So, I made it through the big day.  All I can tell you is that it was no walk in the park.  I had no idea the depth of pain I would be feeling.  The pain was primarily from the gas that they pumped in my belly.  The morphine does not touch that pain.  Just a warning in advance.  Only time and walking will help that subside.  No icechips, no sip of water, not a thing until the next day.  They let me swab my mouth out with a wet sponge or swish with mouthwash.  None the less, my lips were sticking to my teeth. and my mouth was super dry.  The morning after, they took me downstairs to drink some barium for the "swallow test."  Basically, they x-ray'd me as I swallowed that awful stuff.  It was gross!  I passed with flying colors, no leakage was found.  I met with the hospital dietician, the Bariatric Coordinator, the Surgeon and of course my dear nurses that took care of me while I was in there.  They were all just complete gems.  By 2:00 i was checked out and sent home.

So while at home, I'm on pain meds that completely knock me out, I've developed a cold and I just don't feel good at all.  I'm hoping as the days progress, I will feel better.  Having to sip out of little ounce size cups 24/7 to get my clear liquids in.  It's a huge change because other than feeling thirsty, I'm not hungry, not one single bit.  Weird feeling.

I'll keep you updated as the days progress.
