My first experience with Dr. Christina Li was during an informational seminar many months before my gastric bypass surgery (August 2008). I felt that the staff’s presentation and Dr. Li’s subsequent review of the procedure, its possible complications, benefits, and expectations were clear, concise and, as I would find during the months after surgery, right on target. I was particularly impressed with what I would characterize as a compassionate yet no-nonsense approach. I feel that she truly cares about her patients and their long-term success but never sugar-coats potential problem areas.
At the third seminar I attended I was accompanied by my wife who had quite a few reservations about the surgery and possible complications. Dr. Li took the time to answer all of my wife’s questions... [Click here for more] then and during future office visits. This contributed greatly to my wife being comfortable with the surgery and completely supportive of the process. Without family involvement and support no one should enter into this process. It is a lifelong change that must have complete support from friends and family.
In my experience, the office staff throughout the months leading up to surgery and, at this point, one-year-plus after, has been consistently outstanding. From receptionists to nurses to dietitian Nancy Lum to Dr. Li, this team has one single-minded goal: Patient care and long-term success.
Although no one is 100% perfect, I can honestly say that I have found nothing to complain about with Dr. Li and her team. I may have a few issues with Sinai Hospital’s (Baltimore) handling of some situations, but, this team has never faltered.
In my opinion, this team knows what they are doing and they have a lot of experience with bariatric surgery and the process that makes it successful before and after. I feel that the structure is designed to make sure that every surgery candidate completely understands what is about to happen to him or her and what will happen, if the advice and guidance is followed, afterward.
Dr. Li, dietitian Nancy Lum, and the entire support team have my highest regard. They become like family because they want each patient to succeed and are willing to give of themselves to help you through the rough spots, and, there will be rough spots.
No one should go into this thinking it is going to be easy. It is not. What it is is life-changing. In my case I think that my overall health would have deteriorated beyond repair if I had not had the surgery, lost the weight, and allowed my body to shed several life threatening ailments.
Thank you never seems adequate for what Dr. Li, Nancy Lum and the team have done for my life, and, most importantly, my future.

Dr. Li is warm, knowledgeable, and compassionate. My gastric bypass surgery was performed on July 21, 2009 and I have been very pleased with the results. I was able to return to work after two weeks. I did have trouble drinking the protein shakes during the first few weeks and Dr. Li was helpful in offering alternative ways to meet my protein needs.
The one thing I wish I had known beforehand is to expect to be flexible about one’s surgery date. I had finished the 6 month prep in May and expected/hoped to have my surgery in early or mid June. Instead, the surgery could not be scheduled until the very end of June because of Dr. Li’s vacation. It was a perfectly understandable reason for a delay, but emotionally, I was disappointed at the wait. Then, when I finally got a surgery date,... [Click here for more] I called the office 3 times to make sure that they had all the paperwork they needed to get insurance approval. I was assured that they had everything, but that their policy was to wait until a week before the surgery before submitting the paperwork to the insurance company. Well, you guessed it, the insurance company decided to ask for additional paperwork, and since it was so close to the surgery date, the surgery had to postponed again for another 3 weeks. I was crushed and my office was inconvenienced when I had to change my scheduled medical leave yet again.
Still, the surgery itself went rather smoothly and Dr. Li and the nurses at Sinai were extremely kind. I would do it over again in a heartbeat.

Dr Li is a very thorough, caring, and excellent doctor. She was very upfront and honest about expectations prior to, during and post surgery. She explained the different surgeries and discussed with me the pros and cons of each. Together we decided on the RNY. She lets me be an active member of the team. The pre-surgery screening is extensive, but necessary. She emphasizes the risks of not following procedures (taking vitamins and exercise). Individual follow up appointments take place at 1 week, 1,3,6,9 months and annually thereafter. Scheduling appointments is sometimes difficult - she is very busy. Sinai Hospital has a fantastic and frequent support group and active seminars before and after surgery. Overall, Dr Li is a wonderful doctor, both surgically and bedside mannerwise.... [Click here for more] After surgery and when I went in to be hydrated, Dr. Li came to check in on me and discuss fully what happened and how avoid return trips. I would highly recommend her and Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.

.Dr Li was everything that I thought she would be after meeting her, and the dietician Nancy at the information seminars. The Sinai Hospital program, together with my surgeon Dr Li, and dietician Nancy Lum have been fantastic. There has not been any surprise along the way. I am almost 3 month post Lap band, and have lost almost 45 pounds already. I think the Surgery was great, they worked well with my family and support network to get them ready for the surgery, and I don’t make any major decisions without consulting my team at Sinai, Dr Li or Nancy. I met Dr.Li back in 2007 when I first considered bariatric surgery. The atmosphere which Dr. Li presented was warm and welcoming. Along my journey in 2007 pre-op, Dr. Li made herself available to all questions and concerns that I had. When I was one month away from getting a date for surgery I backed out because I felt I was not ready for this life changing procedure. In January 2009, after doing a lot of research on gastric bypass surgery, I made an appointment to meet with Dr. Li. Dr. Li continued to have the warm and welcoming attitude as when I met her back in 2007. This time I was ready and Dr. Li made me more confident in the procedure which I chose to have. Dr. Li's attitude and knowledge of her practice assured me that I was in good hands. The staff who works in Dr.Li's office... [Click here for more] were brilliant. I have no complaints. On the day I was scheduled for surgery Dr. Li came to me and asked if I were ready? She made it her business to make me comfortable prior to entering the operating room. Prior to being prepared for surgery Dr. Li introduced herself to my family and assured them that I was in good hands. I would definitely recommend Dr. Li to anyone who is considering bypass surgery.

HI. I had gastric bypass on aug 7, 2009.Dr.Li performed my surgery beautifully at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore. Before surgery, she and her office answered every question imaginable. They give you all the info you need and afterwards I knew exactly what to do, what to eat,and how my body would feel, like the back of my hand. Dr.Li is very smart and knowledgable and I promise you will leave her office confident in your decision. Posted on 08/25/2009 |

Dr. Li impressed me as someone who knows what she is doing. She answers questions and explains your procedure in detail with pros and cons. The program and support at Sinai Hospital is great. They tell you what to expect in all phases of your surgery including how to eat. There are many support seminars to keep you on track. I had lap-band surgery on August 6, 2009. I have never felt better mainly due to my new eating pattern. I was on 5 pills a day, now I am only taking 1. I am looking forward to my weight loss journey with Dr. Li and her staff. It's great to finally start feeling healthy and working with people who care. You even get a hug at the end of your appointment. Posted on 08/19/2009 |

Dr. Li is a great doctor. She is very down to earth and very matter of fact about the surgery and the journey. My fave quote is "I do weight loss surgery not brain surgery" Lap band is a lot of work but she warned me about that but it is a lot more work that I really thought. She is very encouraging and provides me with the kick in the pants I need to keep going. I m down 30 pounds in 6 months and she has been up front from the start that exercise is key...she means it. She is a good cheerleader and in the end I am glad she was my doctor. Posted on 08/16/2009 |

Dr. Christina Li as a great surgeon! As a matter of fact, she is one of the best doctors I've had--period. From the beginning she made me feel like she was genuinely concerned about me personally. She was encouraging and supportive in the way she gave me my weight loss goals. She is always very clear on what what the realistic expectations should be and what the risks are. She was even supportive when I didn't meet her expectations. The surgery was a success, which is what most people worry about. Dr. Li even checked up on me and my family after the surgery a few times to make sure we were okay. Her bedside manner was very comforting. I was always delighted and comforted when she walked into the room. She just gives you the sense that you can relax because she will take care... [Click here for more] of everything. As a worrywort, I really needed this and I appreciated it more than she will ever know. I know this is review is glowing, but I seriously don't have anything negative to say about Dr. Li thus far.

My goddaughter's mother recommeded Dr Christina Li because she had done her gastric bypass surgery in 2006. When I met Dr Li for the first time, she was so down to earth and very knowledge about each surgery. She provided me with a packet of information on each surgery so I can learn more about each and make a decision on which one I wanted to have done even though she recommended one on the first consultation. Even though, I read through these packets, I still took it upon myself to do further research by checking out the Internet, recommended websites, and testimonies from coworkers who had one of the weight surgery. The staff at the Bariatric center are so pleasant and always willing to lend a helping hand. I am glad I picked the bariatric program at Sinai because it is a... [Click here for more] Center of Excellence and has been profile many times in various medical magazines. Initially, I went to a seminar over @ GBMC Hospital and I was not please. Their seminar did not disclose everything I learned from the seminar at Sinai and the fees that were disclosed were not mentioned on their website. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!! However, let me leave you with this thought: no matter where you go and what doctor you decide on, in the end, please make sure that person treats you like a human being, listen to their patients, are knowledgeable, and loves their profession.
