I would say they are way to overloaded with patients. The floor they put us on also had other patients on the floor who had different things done and I feel this should have been a floor devoted to WLP. I had 2 great nurses and 1 patient helper that really showed they cared. I wish they had more. |

| i originally lived in horseheads, ny. i started my journey there. moved to utica, ny 3 hours away. drs here will not take medicare. just as well, i am fully satisfied with the healthcare system in elmira, ny it is well worth the 6 hour round trip to get there and be treated by the finest of physicians and staff |

I liked this hospital. i didn't have any problems with the hospital, it's equipment, or it's staff. One nurse wasn't very nice but she was having a bad day. Other 18 nurses i had during my stay were great. |

There is a few other local hospitals, including one two blocks from my house, and I just think the level of care and service there are not anywhere near what Arnot's is. I cannot imagine staying there and feeling like I had a good experience. |

First of all, this was my first surgery EVER!! Arnot treated me with care and respect. From admission to operating room to recovery room to ICU to Unit 2B, the staff always made me feel like I was their only patient! I felt like I was staying in a hotel rather than a hospital. They encouraged me to get right up and walk the night of surgery, after I had my open RNY. They stayed with me each step of the way. I'd like to name each of the nurses, to show my gratitude and appreciation: admission/day surgery: Judy, Cherie & Jo; operating room: Pam & Misty; recovery: Theresa; ICU: Sonia, Mandy, Norine & Jeanette; and 2B: Shelley, Alanna, Connie, Connie, Cindy, Rhonda, Shelly, and April. These ladies meant more to me those four days than anything! Thanks, ladies!! |

I believe that Arnot is more advanced technologically for this type of surgery. Our other hospital is more advanced in other aspects of healthcare. |

I was a bit nervous about the sensitivity of the staff, but found it to be unfounded. All of the staff I encountered before, during and after the surgery were wonderful. The hospital has gowns and equipment that are more than comfortable. I would recommend this hospital to any patient looking to have bariatric surgery. |

I will have to get a little personal here but you will have to know. I of course started my period the moring of my surgery. I wasn't canceling not after the time I had waited. I found only a few of the nurses would help me with this matter. After all I really couln't bend to take care of it my self. When I was moved from ICU to a room.I was the first patient in the room,then they moved a women in the room with me that had upper resportory infection and all kinds of things wrong with her. I said to the nurse she can't be in here with me. So instead of moving her out they decided to move me out. They made me get out of bed and walk down the hall. They wasn't even a wheel chair there for me my size.I almost fainted(thank God my best friend Sue was there)she gave them the what for. The other thing was not getting any rest.I was woke up more times than I can count. The one other thing was the ace bandages they put on my legs(because the stockings wouldn't fit) they wrapped them so tightly that they cut off the circulation in my feet. I had mt boy friend remove them because the hurt so bad there was blood on the inside of the bandage. They were so tight they had cut me.My feet were black and blue for about a week. The cuts are finally getting better. |

I have only been in one other hospital and compared to that it was right up there. |

All the nurses and assistants I had were very curtious. The surgery room attendants were very thorough and told me everything that was going to happen and that made me and my husband a lot more relaxes. I certainly was not blind sided on anything that took place. I would recommend this hospital and the Bariatric Clinic to anyone. |

My only complaint is that after they took my epidural out, it took a nurse 3 hours to get an order for additional pain medicine. In a way, it may have been my fault because I waited until I was in pain to ask for it but this is something they should have been better prepared for. |

All the staff at the hospital mostly Joy,Jason & Tom were excellent. They were the greatest part of the 2B floor team. Very nice people. Would recommend them for high reviews if I could. |

I think this hospital was horrible in the care of me. I have had hospital stays in one other local hospital and was very well taken care of. |

I had a nurse in the ICU that was very insensitive to me and even hurt me on a few occasions. I did not get my first sponge bath until the day I left the hospital on day four. It was like pulling teeth to get pain meds and nausea meds. I even had a hard time getting someone to help me in the restroom taking care of personal female needs. I couldn't wait to get out of there. |

I live in Corning and even during emergencies my family drives to Arnot. I would not go anywhere else. |

I was so impressed with everything. I stayed in ICU my first night and I wanted to call my dad (who because of his surgery is confined the our house)... they brought me a portable phone that for some reason didn't work... but they helped me up later and with 2 nurses on each side I made my way to a phone outside my room. The nurses on my floor for my regular room knew exactly what to do and when I couldn't wake up (pain pills... gotta love 'em) they acted quickly and I was fine. The radiology department was perfect. I think they finally got them memo to be nice! I was really tired and couldn't stay awake so they leaned the table back so I was half laying so that I wouldn't fall. Then when the Dr. came in to do the test they gently tilted me back up and I took 3 little sips of the stuff... looked at the doc and told him I couldn't do anymore. He quickly said that was ok and even took the cup so I wouldn't have to keep holding it! I was very very happy with the way they treated me. But, the most spectacular part was my anasthesiologist (no clue if I spelled that right). Putting an i.v. anywhere proved to be impossible by the staff. Dr. Breyman wasn't supposed to be the one taking care of me but because I had so many problems I think he was asked to take care of me. I am sooooo glad that it was him! He calmed me down in the "staging" area before we went into the O.R., then when he was unable to but an I.V. in as well they had to run a central line in my chest. I had had no relaxants and no pain stuff, this was my first surgery, and I am terrified of basically anything surgical but, I was so calm. His calm and skill kept me together and for that I will be forever greatful! It wasn't an easy time but with the staff I had, in all stages of my stay, I could not have asked for better care!! |

It ranked just as high as any of the other local hospitals. Seeing as I have never really stayed anywhere else, it has my highest ranking possible. |

Just a few comments:
1) It was absolutely ridiculous that they want patients to pay $4 a day to watch the television in the room. I just really had to laugh at that.
2) The people that made the food trays did a pretty good job at doing the clear liquids except for the juices. Instead of giving us 100% juice, they were giving 10% juice even though we kept trying to tell them.
3) The Radiology/Barium leak test department was *TERRIBLE* The doctor and the one woman was absolutely rude and condescending and if I could, I would have fired them myself. They had no consideration of me, nor any of the other bariatric patients that were having surgery/testing around that time. Beware of them. |

Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital in Elmira, NY is excellent. The nurses, doctors, technicians and personnel were extremely caring and compassionate. I would not hesitate to recommend this hospital to anyone considering Rouex en Y gastric bypass surgery. |

Dr. Da'Tar, the anesthesiologist gave me an epidermal in my back which blocked my pain. I was told that I would not feel pain and they were right! I had some pressure and soreness but no real pain to speak of with the epidermal and the pain medication in my IV and oral medication every 4 hours my pain was managed very well. This elective major surgery went smoother than I could have ever expected. I really thought I would have to have endured more pain than I did. |

I would recommend this hospital to any one for any reason. The nurses were great! I received excellent care and felt that they were genuinely concerned with my well-being. The only negative was the staff in the area where I had my leak test. They were rude. The doctor was very unprofessional. He pulled the screen across my stomach and caught my drains and pulled them and when I yelled, he was nasty. Perhaps he didn't realize how much it hurt!!!! Everyone else was wonderful! |

This is a great hospital. At times I did feel like I was bothering staff with requests but I know that they were very busy and when they got the chance they were right there to help me. |

It is a beautiful hospital but like many hospitals these days it could have used more staff. Being my doctor performs these surgeries on Fridays I felt that maybe the hospital didn't have as large a staff on the weekend. Overall my needs were met and I would go back again. The staff was very friendly to all the patients. |
