How Selected:	It was close and the consultation made me feel very welcome.

How Selected:	I went to a few support group meetings (pre-surgery) and asked a lot of questions. The general consencus was BTC was the best of the best.
Competitors:	The absolute very best in care. Very accomodating and repectful personel and an intensive comfortable setting both in surroundings and staff. I worked in an industry where I was exposed to a total of 23 women who had bariatric surgery all within a 3 year period. We had our own 'support' group within the organization. Each one of them with a different story. Everything from complete success to death! The handfull of co-workers that went to BTC were the ONLY ones that had no complications whatsoever. I feel completely blessed that I choose this path as I am now 5 years out and still have nothing but a smile on my face.
Comments:	I couldn't be more pleased. I know of many others that had this surgery at other institutions, and some of the horror stories are very sad. NWSC perfected the complete care for the bariatric patient. I am 5 years out from my surgery and hind sight is still extremely positive for the care I received throughout my experience pre and post op.I HIGHLY reccomend this facility.

How Selected:	I searched on Obesityhelp for a surgeon near me with the most experience and Barix Clinic kept showing up, and then when they were so quick to schedule me for the pre-op stuff and they were ready to answer my questions and concerns, that cemented them for me.
Competitors:	Compared to other hospitals I have been in (1, just a small local one) Barix was so much better equipped to handle someone of my size with my needs.
Comments:	The staff at Barix was awesome. Dr. Boe made it a point to know me well and to make sure I felt at ease. When I was in the hospital after surgery I got a slight fever in the middle of the night and I couldn't get a hold of my mom, so one of the overnight nurses stayed with me to calm me down and help me relax enough to get back to sleep. They really went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and well cared for. I highly recomend Barix.

Competitors:	superior by far to my local hospitals with the exception of Memorial Medical Center in Springfield which is quite good.
Comments:	It was the perfect experience for this surgery. They really know what they're doing.

How Selected:	Through tiring research I found this to be the best hospital with the best surgeon. They specialize in WLS.
Competitors:	There is no comparison. They are an 11 on a scale of 1-10.
Comments:	A little old and could use some updating in the lower level. Everyone was awesome from the moment I walked in until I left. I'm more than happy with my choice!

How Selected:	Received an email about the clinic and went to one of the consultations. I was very impressed in what Barix had to offer so I chose them over the local doctor in my town.
Competitors:	Never been in any other hospital. However, since bariatric surgery is all they do I would assume they are more knowledgeable than hospitals that do this type of surgery on top of everything else.
Comments:	Overall a very welcoming and comfortable place. They need to make sure the air conditioning is on everywhere when it is warm outside, just not those rooms that have patients in them.

Comments:	It was great overall. Except for day two I had one nurse who didn't seem to like her job very well. She could barely walk was out of breath and had to sit down in the middle of taking my vitals. She did not respond to my call button pages very quickly either and was slow to bring my pain med. Other than her the rest of the staff was wonderful. Treated me with respect and were very educated. I would recommend the Barix clinic to everyone.

How Selected:	A Friend of mine had surgery here 4 years ago and she highly recommened Barix Clinics and Dr Boe
Competitors:	This hospital specializes in Bariatric Surgery so everyone is trained on how to take care of their Bariatric patients
Comments:	I am VERY pleased with Dr Boe and his staff at BARIX CLINICS, I would definately recommend anyone who is thinking about this surgery to at least look into the BARIX CLINICS.

How Selected:	I was aware of others who had the surgery through the clinic. All that I spoke with were extremely happy with treatment and follow-ups.
Competitors:	My last hospital stay was in 1991 at a local (Rockford, IL) hospital. Both facilities were excellent.
Comments:	Nurses were great, some even had the surgery so they were aware of issues that I had. They also shared their experiences and answered questions which helped a lot.

How Selected:	Hospital my surgeon works in.
Comments:	The recovery room nurse was kind of snappy. Not what you need when waking up from anesthesia. I was groggy and of course wanting pain meds right away. There was one other nurse from the ER who was mean and irritable. She was called to come and assist with inserting a new IV in my arm and she did not seem happy about being pulled away from her patient in the ER. She told me when she came in my room that she had a patient waiting for her. I had pain from gas in my abdomen and my folely catheter was causing some pain so when she came in my room with a bad attitude and then was rough inserting the IV in my wrist I kind of got mad and my response was to cry. My other nurses were wonderful and helped with everything I needed. I was really impressed with them.

How Selected:	Fantastic facility and hospital. I would recommend Barix Clinic to ANYONE who was even thinking about having WLS. I wanted the best. I wanted to have my WLS at a place with doctors who were EXCELLENT in their field. I could not have found a better place or a better doctor.
Competitors:	There is no comparison. The local hospitals here are WAY under staffed and the nurses are burned out and cannot help you like they should or could. The staff at Barix (Belvedere, IL) was always there and helped with everything.
Comments:	Seriously, if you're even thinking about WLS... Have it done at a Barix Clinic! If you're in the Illinois area, have it at the Northwest Suburban Community Hospital!

How Selected:	Wanted to go to a Barix Clinic, this was closest to us.
Competitors:	Since your not made to feel like an alien when your getting blood work or anything else done. Its got to be the best experience for an overweight individual. We feel human. In other hospitals, we feel embarraessed most of the time and we are the ones always saying we are sorry for not fitting in a chair or other things.
Comments:	It was excellent. The staff is friendly and willing to take time to explain procedures. Staff very informative. Some have had the surgery.

Competitors:	The only other time I have ever been in a hospital is to have my kids. Can't compare.
Comments:	The above comment about restfull quiet.. the only rest I got was in between BP/ temp readings, walks, breathing exercises. All very important.

How Selected:	Researched bariatric surgery & wanted a hospital that only specialized in this type of surgery. This hospital was 5 hours away from my home but I picked it because my son only lived an hour away from it and he could be there with me.
Competitors:	I think it was absolutely terrific. They specialize in this surgery so they understand the problems associated with it, they have equipment built for heavier patients and quite a few of the nurses there have had the surgery themselves.

How Selected:	I was impressed with the Barix Program.There are local(closer)hospitals ,but this was the closest Barix Program.
Competitors:	The hospitals in town do not offer the personalized care,aftercare ,and special needs of obese patients that Barix offers.I talked with people that had surgery at this hospital,and felt comfortable with their responses.
Comments:	I am impressed that many of the staff have had bariatric surgery.I found that reassuring.

How Selected:	I wanted to go through Barx since I know that is what they specialize in. I didn't want to go somewhere where they specialized in other things. I wanted to go where I felt safest.
Competitors:	Much better, it was much cleaner. All the staff spoke perfect English, even the housekeeper. The nurses were there cuz they wanted to be, they are interested in helping you the patient.
Comments:	Everyone is great. The general staff, nurses and doctors were all great. I highly recommend the Barix clinics.

Competitors:	I think the hospital i was at was alot more epuipped to care for me after the surgery. A lot more than some of the other hospital that some of my friends have been to after their wls.

Comments:	The staff was the greatest. I never once had to ask for anything. They were always on top of EVERYTHING.

How Selected:	It was where the Barix Clinics operated out of...my surgeon was there so obviously I went there.
Competitors:	The hospital was very well equipped, with an outstanding staff that exceeded my expectations.

Competitors:	I don't know about "local" hospitals, but the hospitals here in Dub. IA are comparable, of course the Barix Center caters to the obese so it is better.
Comments:	I really enjoyed my stay at the Barix Center, I do wish the halls had carpet due to the loudness of the IV poles creeping past your room at all hours due to walks, otherwise the nurses were great, alot of whom had the surgery, some who were going to have the surgery. The support staff is very nice and knowlegeable, too. Many tools they give for your next 6wks and beyond!

How Selected:	Referred from another patient.
Competitors:	I would say that you don't have to deal with all the other possible diseases that may me floating around other hospitals, flu colds, etc..so less of a risk of acquiring an infection. Nursing staff not as knowledgable about by-pass in other hospitals.
Comments:	I like that it was just meant for gastric by-pass patients. But I did feel a little scared that if something were to happen I would be transported else where.

How Selected:	1 friend and 1 of my husband's co workers had been there. I did a lot of checking into others and felt that this one was best.
Competitors:	i work at a indiana hospital larger than this one. we are just a county hospital this was private and i felt the appearance could be updated. really need more than 2 nurses on midnights. however the nurses that are there are more than competent.
Comments:	excellent staff even the housekeeper was very caring.

How Selected:	This hospital only does bariatric surgery so they are the best of the best!
Competitors:	The staff really makes you feel welcome and they make you feel like you are getting one on one service. They are always there to answer any questions no matter how small. The Staff was wonderfull!!!
Comments:	I am only 2 weeks post op and feeling great. If I had to do this over again i would and i would not go anywhere else but Barix Clinics, they are the best.

Comments:	I was pleased wit the care i received the four days I was there following my surgery. I was not pleased with my two week follow up and have not been back since.

How Selected:	I had a friend that use to work there years ago and she told me about it. At that time having the surgery wasn't something I was considering.
Competitors:	The staff was great. Always there when you called them and very helpful. I didn't care for the shower being down the hall instead of in my room. Other then that it was a very nice and clean hospital.
Comments:	I am glad I was able to have my surgery there. It was a wonderful experience(as wonderful as having surgery can be)

Competitors:	Haven't had the opportunity to actually be a patient in any of my local hospitals so can't answer this question fairly.
Comments:	From checkin to checkout the staff was great! They were considerate, understanding, supportive....it did not seem to me that there was anything they would not do to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The hospital though small is clean and well taken care of. I really enjoyed the felling that everyone knew and cared about all that was going on.

How Selected:	Through research and since it was s Specialty Hospital I thought it would be a good choice alhough now that I know it is separate from the Dr.'s that are used there, I don't approve of how the billing is done and that hey don't explain that to you.
Competitors:	Very good.
Comments:	The hospital staff was very accomadating and nice.
