How Selected: It is the closest hospital to my home and Dr Ray and Dr Colquitt practice at this hospital
Competitors: Blount is very personal in their care with their patients, more so then any other hospital I have found in this area.
Comments: Blount was absolutely wonderful. From surgery to my private room every nurse and staff member trated me like I was the only patient there. I wouldlike to say a special thank you to Kari and Brenda my daytime nurses and to Melissa and Rosie my night time nurses, they were excellent and again they treated me like I was the only patient on the floor. I would recommend Blount Memorial to anyone considering having this surgery.

How Selected: Surgeon's choice
Competitors: Better than most
Comments: I think the fourth floor bariatrics team is great. Very funny and caring staff. What I did NOT like was the nurse that came up to help from a different floor to try to help with the night shift. When I got up for my walk she attached the bag that goes to the catheter to her smock. Then she started to run off somewhere...with my bag...it was still in my bladder at the time. I had a few choice words for the crazy woman. Other than that, the staff was great. With the exception of the two women (not nurses) that come around when your fixing to be discharged and try to bath you and give you stuff. I found them to be very rude and offensive. I don't know if they were having a bad day or what, but they were very short. In my opinion, they do not need to be working with patients. My opinion of them was less than negative. I read the comments and don't understand what the heck people mean when they said that BM has horrible parking. I mean, gee, they have a garage and even little golf cart type-things that you can get brought to and from the front door with. Anyhow, I couldn't resist commenting on the parking.

How Selected: This hospital was a preferred provider for BCBS Fed Employee Program and the hospital my physician works at.
Competitors: I had an excellent experience. I had complications after my surgery (non surgery related) so had contact with numerous doctors and staff - everyone was fabulous!
Comments: All staff but one were fabulous - very considerate of me and my entire family. Very responsive to my needs and took excellent care of me in the bariatric ward and in ICU.

Comments: My stay at the hospital was good. The only problem I had was that some of the staff seemed kind of short with some of the request that I made, etc...bandage leaking, helping up out of bed, placing the phone, water, etc within my reach. But for the most part, it was a good experience.

How Selected: One of two local hospitals/surgeons who offer bariatric surgery.
Competitors: Blount Memorial is smaller than some of the local hospitals, but the nursing care was very good. Dr. Nelson (ICU dr) was partially in charge of my case after I had to have a second operation for hernia repair and developed complications from that. He is a highly compitent dr and can get things done for the patient's benefit.
Comments: The staff in all areas (CT, ER, X-Ray, Nursing, Cleaning, Physical Therapy) was very friendly, helpful and encouraging.

How Selected: Hospital is in the John Deere -Select list of providers
Comments: I had an uneventful stay in the hospital. The staff was wonderful. The only two area that I would say they need improvements are in restfullness of patients and walkers. This hospital is very new at WLS and is still developing their program together. From a patient view I would say that the package is 97% there. The only problem I would say is they need walkers in the rooms. They want the patients to be up and walking around, which I did, but would have felt more comfortable if I had one on Monday. The restfullness of the room was really only an issue at night. It seemed that the lights in the hall was never lowered and the staff was dropping stuff all the time, and it sounded as if pretty big items were being dropped. As I said above, the overal rating would be good, as it is definately above average and not quite excellent.
