Competitors: could have HIGH INFECTION RATE (MRSA) that is unpublished due to california law
Comments: Surgery on 2-23-07 I contracted a staff infection(MRSA) as did another patient who had bypass before me with the same doctor and ended up in ICU for 45 days, hospitalized for 3 months and took 1 year total to recover fron infection which left me with peripheral neuropathy. I did lose close to 200 pounds but feel that all california hospitals should be required to PUBLISH INFECTION RATES!!!!!!

How Selected: Cedars-Sinai has a well-deserved reputation for being a top-notch teaching and research facility with excellent care, and I went there because all of the highly recommended doctors available locally were practicing only out of this hospital.
Competitors: Cedars offers higher quality care than UCLA, Santa Monica, Century City, St. John's -- and these are all great West LA hospitals.

How Selected: The bariatric surgeon I choose works with that hospital.
Competitors: Cedars has a reputation as a very good hospital. But I haven't been a patient in any other hospitals in over 30 years, so I can't really compare it to any others.
Comments: In general I thought the hospital did a good job during my overnight stay. The staff is quite busy, but that's generally the case in all hospitals I'm aware of. It sometimes took a while for a nurse to come to give me additional pain medication. The rooms are very close together and unfortunately there was a patient in the next room in great pain, who kept me up all night. But I don't fault him for that, he was obviously having a lot of trouble. But it did keep me awake most of the night.

How Selected: AT the time, this was the only hospital where Dr. Q was performing bariatric surgeries. He has since begun performing them at St. Joe's in Burbank.
Competitors: I've been in two other hospitals. It ranks on a par with Valley Presbyterian (a non-teaching hospital) and is far superior to Antelope Valley Hospital.
Comments: This hospital is top-flight. Their staff was responsive and friendly and they did everything they could to meet my needs quickly and efficiently. They rocked!

Competitors: Modern, up to date, up to date medication. Clean, friendly, team oriented.
Comments: The nurses, (Elaine in PreOp, Joy, Gayle , Sara, Nancy in PostOp) excellent! Very respectful, knowledgable and were interested in me. Clean hospital, up to date and comfortable. Wish I would've had a wheelchair assist upon discharge, but walking is prescribed anyway after surgery.
