How Selected: This was the hospital used by my surgeon and approved by my insurance.
Comments: Generally my care was very good. At night I did have to have them close my door because the nurses station was down the hall and they tended to be very noisy. This hospital is a Bariatric Center of Excellence and very well suited to handle bariatric patients. I had no problems at all with any staff, except one PA that was either having a bad day and very gruff with me and the other patient in my room. I did let the hospital know about it.

Competitors: Very goog.
Comments: My only complaint was my roommate. An elderly woman, up all night complaining, coughing wheezing, intermittantly confused. No a goog match for a fresh post-op needing sleep. I never slept for more than 20minutes at a time. Had I needed to stay a second night I would have requested a room change. I was way over being a good sport. Lucky for me I got to go home!

Competitors: Cannot compare, as it was too far from my local hospitals. I traveled three hours to meet with my surgeon and his staff, and use the hospital facility he was approved with by my insurance company.
Comments: Clovis was beyond my expectation. The staff was superb. They were attentive and never made me feel that I was asking for too much. The hospital was clean and the decor was lovely. I was most concerned with post-op staff and how that experience would be. They were wonderful. They even smiled regularly at me. My RNs and CNAs were excellent and made a great team. The nursing staff worked 12/hrs. so the change wasn't so frequent. This gave me a sense of stability and consistency. Because of this, I think there was less stress for me and for them as there did not seem to be the chaos that usually happens on the 8/hr. shift change. This is the BEST hospital I ever had to stay in, by far! My mom is an RN and has worked in many hospitals. Her opinion was that Clovis Community was the exception, not the rule (unfortunately). The only minor compliant my mom had was about the hospital cafeteria staff. Apparently, the people in there were quite rude and impatient. She chose to use Clovis' Outpatient Hospital Cafe/Cafeteria to avoid further bad experiences.

How Selected: My Insurance company selected this hospital.
Competitors: It is newer than the hospital in my town. About the same. I think most hospitals have basically the same things.
Comments: This hospital was new and very clean. Pretty views of a large pond from my room. They have new beds. Hated the beds couldn't get good sleep on them. They moved constantly. I would move the bed and think I was comfy then the bed would adjust to my weight and either fill up with air or deflate in certain areas. It drove me crazy. Couldn't sleep for more than a hour at a time. Went home and slept for 4 to 6 hours. Had to be the beds. Most of the staff were very nice. Had one nurse that I didn't care for. While my children (2 & 9) were visiting she asked my husband to leave with them because my neighbor had trouble sleeping. My 2 year old wasn't even being excessively loud. Actually he was very quiet for him. My neighbor didn't complain. She asked where my children went. Didn't have the heart to tell her the nurse used her as an excuse to get my children to go. As a matter of fact 2 hours later she had grandchildren visit. 3 little ones(7, 4, & 2). Oh Well. Also had a leaky IV in the middle of the night. Nurses assistants came and checked and told me they would send in the nurse to check. She didn't come til 4 hours later and didn't seem to know anything about my leaky IV. Took the IV out and said you are going home anyway today. Asked if I wanted a new IV. I told her no. For the most part I had very good nurses and staff. Just one with an ok bedside manner. But overall my stay was good I had a nice roommate. Hospitals are never good for a good nights rest so don't expect that. I was glad to go home and be in my own bed.

Comments: Excellent with one exception. Nursing staff included one LVN male that though knowledgeable (I believe--he does maintain a credential) caused stress to all patients that he serviced. He seemed to be very non-caring and caused much pain to patients. This may have been due to being behind schedule on his rounds, his comment, " I am just now doing my 1500 meds at 1900" his injections of medications was brutal. He was an island of brutality in a ocean of caregivers. I was fortunate enough to have my wits about me and realized that maybe he enjoyed giving pain. In the middle of our first encounter he fled the room before finishing and tried to avoid my for the rest of my stay. Was it something I said? My visitors rushed into the hallway to see what was happening to a female patient two rooms down that was screeching with pain! Big Jim was doing his finger stick routine for blood sugar levels, her finger was badly bruised the next morning. Big Jim was a monster. I will especially remember Big Jim in my prayers.

Comments: My experience here was just fine. I do not have a problem speaking up when I need something. I did place a complaint about the registration/admitting clerks. How Selected: My insurance company gives me a choice once a year to select either Community or Saint Agnes. This is my choice.
Competitors: Just as good as any other hospital. I worked for Saint Agnes at one time, but go to Clovis Community because of the proximity to my place of residence.
Comments: Absolutely excellent. This was my first time as an inpatient there. I was somewhat apprehensive by reading other people's reviews regarding the nursing staff. The care was excellent. Med/Surg staff on First floor couldn't have been better. There were many patients and not enough nurses to go around, yet they managed to be there constantly. Occasionally I would have to buzz them to let them know my IV was beeping. Pain meds on the spot, on time. All I had to do was ask for them after my PCA was discontinued. My roommate was discharged the next day and replaced by another, still they managed to attend to both of our needs in a timely manner. I got them a thank you gift and am taking it to them this afternoon.

How Selected: It was accepted by my insurance, and since it was one of our newer hospitals in the area I decided to give it a try.
Competitors: I will always go to Saint Agnes Hospital from now on.
Comments: The nurses did not even come in to show you how to get out of bed. I did not have a catheter, so getting to the bathroom was a process. The nurses did not show me how to unplug my IV unit so that I could get up and walk - I figured it out on my own. The nurse who took my oxygen off left the oxygen turned on for hours. One of the other nurses discovered it later. When I would get up in the middle of the night to walk, the nurses sitting around talking would glare at me like I was interupting them. I just kept on walking. One of the nurses had alcohol on her breath. I never asked for much of anything, so I was floored when the day after my surgery I pushed the call button and they just turned it back off. A few minutes later, the alcoholic nurse peeked into my room, said "I have two more people ahead of you - it'll be a little while before I can get back". She didn't even ask what the problem was. As it was, I couldn't breath. I had to call my daughter and have her come back to the hospital to help me. Nobody came into my room again until my daughter came and started demanding they help me... that was approximately 40 minutes later. I read reports on this site that other people had bad experiences at this hospital. I just thought that each experience is different for all of us and that I would be ok. Never again. I believe all of you who have negative comments regarding Clovis Community Hospital, and I'm only sorry I didn't take your advice before surgery. I'm doing fine now though and I wish all of you the best.

Comments: The hospital was beautiful and clean, all the pre-admitting, recovery and general staff were wonderful except for the night nurses! My IV alarm was going off every 10 minutes. So I would buzz them and tell them and they'd say " We'll send the tech/nurse in ".... 30 min later someone would stroll in. EVERY time I told them why do I have to keep going through this? Can't they do something??? They ignored me. Then, I would buzz them for pain killers... 30 min later they would come in. And my room was right next to the nurses station. The poor girl next to me had it even worse since she was not healing as fast.. They pretty much treated her like crap no matter what she asked for. If it wasn't for the volunteers and some of the techs I would have been balling the whole time.
