How Selected: This was the next available surgery for my dr.
Competitors: I had my appendix oout at Northwest Regional. I prefer Coral Springs Medical!
Comments: Due to a very low blood count I had to stay 6 days. Other than the pain this was like a hotel. The nurses and PCA's were able to meet my needs BEFORE I know I needed them. All of the staff ver very friendly. They answered my calls (to go potty) immediately I was totally hooked up and could not get unhooked by myself. I was so nervous going into this hospital, but never again.

How Selected: By default. The hospital my surgeon normally works out of was dropped by my insurance company. He had rights at this hospital so I just had to wait until he had his equipment set up there.
Competitors: Its not the worst hospital in the world but it would not have been my first choice. The hospital itself and nice, very clean and well equipped. The staff on the other hand are lacking in many many ways.
Comments: This was my second stay at this hospital and after the first I swore I would never ever go back there again. The circumstances with my insurance did not allow me much choice, so I braved it again hoping that my experience would be better. It wasn't. Not all of it was bad: the nurses in the pre-op area were awesome, very nice and very accomodating. It was after surgery my experience went downhill. Coming out of recovery I was in a bariatric bed which was nice, very comfy. However, the bed did not fit thru the door to my hospital room so there I am RIGHT AFTER SURGERY being rammed into the door again and again like a battering ram. It was NOT pleasant for me! My husband and my parents were there watching this and getting upset to say the least and the most comforting thing the nurse did was grumble to her coworker, "You should have left the family downstairs." I guess they could have REALLY roughed me up then! After that, I have to say the evening nurses were very nice and very attentive, they helped me to get up and walk and gave me swabs for my dry mouth. It was all downhill from there. The 2nd and 3rd days of my stay were awful. I had to beg for water, I had to beg for someone to unhook my *wires* so I could go to the bathroom. I would ask and ask and just get snotty responses and no nurse would come. It was just like my first stay a few years ago. After I was removed from the morphine drip, I had to ask for pain medication. I asked for 2 hours before it came and I was crying by then. Thank God they sent me home after that. I know now that my first bad experience at CSMS was NOT a fluke and I can tell you that even if I was shot in the parking lot of this hospital, in front of the emergency room doors, I would drive myself across town to receive care at a different hospital.
