Competitors: I was also at Emory main hospital and they operate about the same
Comments: The staff was ok, the one thing that bothered me was that they told my mom that they had dangled me and they never did, I had to beg them to get me up, my poor mom I woke up around 5am and wanted to call her but didnt until around 8-8:30am had to have her come and help me out of bed, however by the time she got there my day nurse Gloria(who was the BEST damn nurse) got me out of bed, she was there every so often to make sure that I wasnt in pain or to see if I needed anything, I really appreiciated that she went above anf beyond

How Selected: This was the hospital used by my surgeon.
Competitors: I had knee surgery at Piedmont Hospital. Crawford Long was significantly better than Piedmont. The nurses and technicians did an excellent job providing care! They appeared to truly care about my well-being! I felt very comfortable putting my health in their hands...
Comments: The hospital was very accommodating. They allowed my husband to spend the night in my room the first night and my daughter to spend the night the second night. They checked on me regularly and made sure I had a constant supply of fresh ice and water. The room was comfortable, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was roomy. I would go back to that facility without question!

Competitors: This is still the best hospital stay I have experienced in my life.
Comments: Although the beds and equipment are not for very large patients they were still adequate for our needs. The nursing staff was excellent. My wife is also a nurse and was with me and she agrees the staff was the best. The night staff especially Alice was terrific. The most knowledgeable nurse I ever met. Praise God for her.

How Selected: I selected my surgeon after doing research about several surgeons in my area. Also, she did a RNY on someone else I know. The hospital was a result of having chosen the surgeon.
Competitors: I think Crawford Long is one of the best hospitals available.
Comments: My room was right accross the hall from the room where they keep all the medicine, therefore, there was a little bit of noise from the hallway at night. Overall, my experience was very good. I did have one nurse, Bridget, who did not do a very good job. She never told me her name, I only found out because I heard her answering the phone. Also, she was supposed to check my vitals every 30 mintues during the first hours after my surgery. She did not do that. She left the machine hooked up and then stopped by every 2 hours or so and updated my chart with the information stored in the machines. My mother is a nurse and she was in the room with me during this time and she monitored my vitals. However, if my vitals had not been good, my nurse may not have knows in a timely manner. However, despite the shortcoming of that one nurse, I still viewed my hospital stay in a favorable light.

How Selected: My doctor only uses this hospital so I was a little disappointed once I found out. I was hoping to go to Emory Hospital in Decatur because I worked there at one time and know the workings of the hospital.
Competitors: This stay at Crawford was not as good as Henry Medical Center where I have been before many times, even for surgery.
Comments: The appearance and structure of Crawford is great. Due to the shortage of nurses, the actual care was not that great...especially at night. I never had the call button placed where I could call for help or even turn on the tv or lights. When the nurses came in to check vitals and bandaging, I kept telling them that the doctor wanted me to sit up. I needed to sit up with my back hurting as bad as it did. They would always tell me that they would get another nurse and help me sit up in a chair for a few minutes. They never came back and again left me with out a button. I never even got up to sit until after they took me down for the leak test. I also wore the same bloody gown that I came out of surgery up until I went home, even though they kept saying they were going to change it. If my husband and mom had not stayed with me, I really believe that I would still be there. I did not even realize how far down the hall I was from the nurses station until I left. There is such a critical shortage of nurses that they do the best they can with what they have.

How Selected: My surgeon did.
Competitors: I have only stayed in one hospital.
Comments: I know that while I was in surgery noone informed my husband how I was doing. I was in surgery twice as long as before indicated so he remained in waiting room clueless until I was out of surgery and was poorly informed by one of my surgeons. Then he waited another 2 hours without hearing another word in which he had to question many people to get that information.

How Selected: I selected Crawford Long because of the excellent things I had read on Obesity Help from other members on how well they were staffed for overweight people and the amount of care and concern the doctors show their patients.
Competitors: I think this hospital is wonderful as are their "sister" hospitals-Emory and Wesley Woods. I would definitely go to them all.
Comments: Overall the staff is very caring and they seemed genuinely concerned about the patients comfort and well-being.

How Selected: The first time I was treated at this hospital, was when I was pregnant with my first child. I was having complications around my 7th month. And my baby had to be delivered a month and a half early. The nurses and staff were very knowledgable in assisting with my situation. They were friendly and caring. And they have an excellent neonatal untit (for premature babies). My stay was pleasant and the food was even good! Needless to say both of my other children were born there as well!
Competitors: I guess I'm kind of biased. I've never had an extended stay at another hospital, I guess because of some of the horror stories i've heard about others, so I stick with what has been best for me.
Comments: I would recommend this hospital on any occasion. They have a qualified, caring staff who work to provide exceptional assistance to their patients!

Comments: My biggest concern was that the nurses appeared to not be educated about wls. My first meal consisted of broth, SPRITE, italian ice (with sugar) and something else that I shouldn't have been given. The broth was expected, but the soda could've done serios damage, had I not educated myself prior to surgery. Also, the nurses never came to get me up for a walk. I had to do it myself. Overall, I think the nurses need more education on wls and how to care for those who undergo such a procedure.
