Competitors: I think all hospitals are understaffed, care in general is not what it used to be in any of the hospitals.
Comments: I do not think the nurses after surgery were sympathetic. I had to call many times to get a response, especially when I got a bad case of the runs and could hardly walk.

How Selected: Dr. Breslaw (along with Dr. Hyland) performs lap bariatric surgery here on Mondays.
Comments: I was extremely satisfied with the staff at this hospital. Everything went perfectly smooth, from the staff that was with me the morning of the surgery to the staff that took care of all of my post-op needs. I'm not one who enjoys hospital stays, but the staff there made me feel very comfortable. They were not only caring but motivational. They had me up and walking, always telling me how great I was doing. Hospital accomomadated my family & friends well. I had a private room with a second bed in case my wife wanted to stay the night. I was fine by myself. I went in on Monday morning and I was out by late Wednesday afternoon. I wouldn't hesitate to stay in this hospital again.

How Selected: Through Dr Breslaw. He only does the surgeries there on MOndays at this time.
Competitors: This Bariatrics ward was a wonderful experience for me. Almost every single person was a 10. Only one nurse was an 8.
Comments: From pre op to discharge everything went very smoothly. Everyone was professional and personable. Peaople who work at the hospital came to visit me that have had the same surgery. That was very awesome. Carmell the surgical coordinator loves her job and that is very obvious. I am a very hard blood stick and let me tell you noone stuck me twice. Now that is very impressive to me. I felt 100 percent confident in the staff in ACU. Debbie and Janie were my nurses. Don't remember my recovery nurse. Astrid, Melonie, Maggie, Julia and Debbie were my bariatric nurses. All 10's except one was a 8. CNA Curt was a 10 too. My room also was a lovely lavender just like my bedroom at home. Bringing my own pillows and my big stuffed yellow duckie was a Godsend. I felt like I was right at home. My family was allowed to stay with me 24 hours a day and they did. I would highly reccomend this Bariatric unit to all who ask.

How Selected: It was the hospital that my doctors go to for the operation.

Comments: I found that different areas of the hospital were better than others, solet me break them down. The day that i went in for my operation, 12/02/02 the staff at the "Care Center" which is the area you go before the operation to check in & get ready was excellent to say the least. They really had it together. They were on time, had all of my paperwork ready, had me setteled in a very short period of time, and made me fell very comfortable. I would give them an A+++ After the operation: The nursing staff on a whole was very good and attentive to my needs. The day time went much better than than the night as it took over 1hr for a initial response the first and second night to get a nurse in there. After that they care was good.I would give there dept a A only because of the care I received during the day. As far as my wife being able to stay as we were told that she would be,the security staff was at best rude to us as they told her that she had to leave at 8:00PM, even after we explianed to them that she was supposed to be able to stay. There was no cordination within the units on this at all. I would give that area a F++ Dietician. Never saw her as I was promissed. My bigest problem was the Upper GI on the second day as I was told it would be early in the morning and it ended up close to 4PM in the afternoon. By that time I was very weak. They were very kind when I got there, and helped me through it.
