Comments: Monday 5/3/04 I go for my PAT. I am not to nervous. I am excited and in the same breath concerned because it's MAJOR SURGERY. I have never had anything so MAJOR accept for when I said "I do" 8 years ago and still going strong. I selected Doylestown Hospital as Dr. Joseph Curci, my surgeon, works out of this hospital. I have only heard very good things about the hospital and feel very confidential that everything will be a success.

How Selected: I researched which Dr's were recommended through my insurance and found Dr. Curci's name and called his office for more information. I also found out about the support group through his office, and there was a listing in our neighborhood MidWeek newspaper for local support groups available in the area.
Competitors: My experience at Doylestown Hospital was excellent in every aspect. I have had other experiences at other hospitals for different surgeries, by far, Doylestown was the best.
Comments: My surgeon and the staff at the hospital was excellent, the care from the nurses was exceptional during my stay, nutritionalist Sue McGovern was very helpful, the booklets she printed were very helpful and answered all my questions about the diet transistion, anytime I needed help she was just a phonecall away. She made my adjustment period much easier because of all the references she had available in these booklets The Gastric Bypass Diet Booklet and the Progression Diet Booklet.

How Selected: Doylestown Hospital is where Drs. Curci and Ford perform the gastric bypass surgery.
Competitors: On a scale of 1 to 10 I give this hospital a zero for the way I was handled in ICU. I have been to Paoli (PA) hospital and would rate Paoli a definate '9'.
Comments: While in ICU I was dropped (read my profile page 10/8/02)while the nurses were getting me out of the bed. I was in a vinyl recliner for over 24 hours. Recliner was two small for my size. I was repositioned only twice while I was in recliner. I received severe ulcers (bed sores) that became infected and - three weeks out - am still affected by the sores. Nurses on the main floor were excellent. Dietary needs to be more careful of the types of food that they serve gastric bypass patients. Cream corn chowder (skins and all), yogurt with very high sugar content, full strength orange and apple juice - seems they should be read the labels before bringing the food.

Comments: I feel that I was given wonderful care. Nothing was impossible, If I had to ring for the nurse, someone was at my bedside within 2-3 minutes at the longest.

How Selected: The surgeon I chose was affiliated with this hospital.
Competitors: I don't have much of a comparison regarding many hospitals. I believe they were very clean.
Comments: My main issue I had was the promptness of the NA's and RN's. It took what seemed like forever to recieve a response to medication. Maybe they were a bit busy, but the comunication process between them and the patient needs a little work. Other than that, I did have a great experience.
