Overall Value: Poor Oversized Equipped: Good Oversized Sensitive: Average
Multi Security: Good Privacy: Good Pain Medication: Good
Quiet: Poor Visiting: Good Staff Responsive: Poor
Parking: Good
How Selected: It is the hospital my doctor does surgery in.
Competitors: My experience with this hospital in my opinion was very poor.
Comments: Receiving my pain medication when I needed it was great. The only bad experience I had was when I asked for a shot right before the nurse went off duty. She gave it so fast that it made me dizzy and nauseated. The nurse that came on duty next said that is what happened. I rang my call bell and no one answered it for at least half an hour. I finally had my daughter turn it off and I said "well I'll just pop one of these heart monitors off "........no one came ever. My IV ran out and the machine beeped for so long I rolled it out in the hallway to finally get someones attention to stop the noise. The hallway lights stayed on all night and it was very noisy. It was not a very restful place to be after surgery.

How Selected: My surgeon's hospital.
Comments: I feel that the hospital staff is still lacking in the knowledge of bariatric surgery. I am glad that I was well enough to take care of myself while I was there.

How Selected: It was the hospital that my surgeon worked from.
Competitors: Honesty, it was one of the worst experiences of my life. I have been a patient in this hospital previously, Childrens Hospital of Buffalo, Buffalo General Hospital and Millard Filmore Suburban. I was totally disgusted with the cleanliness of my room and other fascilities. (Poop on the walls of the visting bathroom......leftover food in my tray table.....nurses never changed the urine output measuring thing so I had to do it myself when I needed to use bathroom. I was supposed to start my liquid diet the day after surgery, and I am lucky my mother and husband where there or I wouldn't have had water. They NEVER brought me my liquid diet until after my Doctor asked how I had tolerated it. There was one wonderful nurse on the night staff that got me through and all I can say is thank God for her. Nobody to help me walk but her and that poor girl was running herself ragged. Other than her nobody even tried to get me out of bed, I had to wait until family got here to follow through with Doctors orders. Pain meds were not given until so long after they were due that I was in hysterics. Something is severly wrong here and I pray to God that I never have to stay here again.
Comments: Horrible experience, understaffed, unclean, just a horrible experience.

How Selected: My Doctor, Posner practices from ECMC and it is the best hospital in Western New York. The staff is excellent and I received excellent care. The staff is the best and I have been in many hospitals.
Competitors: Excellent dedicated staff.
Comments: ECMC is our county hospital in Erie County NY so there are some fiscal issues, however, it is the BEST hospital around and I am a total supporter of ECMC.

How Selected: It is where my surgeon operates, and ECMC was the only hospital to accept the reimbursement amount the insurance company was willing to give
Competitors: It was well staffed but very full and not quiet enough for me
Comments: If I ever go to ECMC again I will request a private room. There was far too much noise for me to sleep without the aid of drugs. Overall the staff is attentive. Since I was the first WLS patient they had cared for there was a lot they didn't know. They brought me full sugared items on my tray and the dietitian met with me so we could discuss that WLS patients can and cannot have. They are very happy to learn and I think the patients that will follow me won't have the same issues.
