How Selected: This hospital was selected by the paramedics that transported me from my home due to complications that arose at home.
Competitors: Always been told to steer clear of this hospital unless you are having a baby and my recent visit is proof of this
Comments: Was brought to this hospital because it is closest to my home and I was having severe complications from my pneumonia that I acquired during surgery. The ER nurse was wonderful but the goodness stopped there for the most part. I was 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery and one of the ER nurses brought me a plate of food, solid food, chicken, green beans, potatoes and a regular soda. I told her that I couldn't have that because of my soda and she was stunned. I had to basically teach here what I had learned from my surgeon and his office about bariatric surgery. I was finally sent to a room and the nurses were really great. I was not thrilled to be in a semi private room with an elderly woman who was incontinent. The nurses assistants took extremely long to get to the room to change this other patient when in need and I suffered because of it. I notified the nurses station by pushing the call button about this and still it took over an hour for someone to come. At one time I started having chills, and nausea and felt like I was running a fever, I notified the nurses station by again pushing my call button and the nurse this time never came. When I saw him 2 hours later I explained to him what I had experienced, by this time it has passed, and he asked me why I didn't call for him. I told him that I did and the desk said they would let him know and he said he was never notified, but that was the end of it, I never heard another thing. I would not recommend this hospital for anyone who has had bariatric surgery, the nurses are not skilled in bariatric patients, the diet, or anything post op for that matter.

How Selected: MY DOCTOR, THIS IS WHERE DR. VANGURI DOES MOST OF HIS SURGERIES.
Competitors: THEY WERE VERY ATTENTIVE AND HELPED A GREAT DEAL WITH THE PAIN MANAGEMENT.
Comments: I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND FRANKLIN SQUARE, IT IS A GOOD HOSPITAL WITH EXCELLENT NURSES, ESPECIALLY CAROL ON DAY SHIFT AND COURTNEY ON NIGHT SHIFT.

How Selected: My physician, Dr. Vanguri, has priviledges at this hospital and it was one of 2 I could select. Based upon some very negative reviews
Competitors: The staff was super friendly but the actual room I stayed in was tiny and cramped for two patients. And on top of it, we had to share a television! YUCK!
Comments: Parking sucks but they're supposed to be working on building a brand new parking garage which will help a great deal!

How Selected: I have had surgery and various tests like sleep study, PFT's at this hospital. It's close to my home and it is where my previous surgeons worked.
Competitors: Parking accomodations in the admitting area are insuffient for the demand.
Comments: This hospital needs a tier garage. The admitting office needs to recieve some obesity sensitivity traning so they are more cognizant when to order a larger wheelchair to transport a patient.

How Selected: I was given the choice of 2 hospitals for my surgery, and chose the one closest to my home.
Competitors: Better than average, some of the so called premier hospitals are out and out horrible.
Comments: My overall experience with the staff and with the hospital overall were great. Staff was very responsive with the exception of a single nurse. The night shift nurse was excellent. I would and did kiss her 3 months later when I ran into her at a local dept. store. I am a RN by profession, and her attitude and behaviour renewed my faith in my chosen profession.

How Selected: My surgeon did. I had my children there and thought it would be okay.
Competitors: Can't, I have never been to any other.
Comments: I felt like the day staff was very good and met my needs wonderfully. The night staff was lazy and did not want to be bothered with me. Futher the night staff kept turning on the lights when they entered my room and did not turn them off (the light switch was away from my bed.) The night staff also allowed visitors for my roomate way past visiting hours. I finally had to turn the lights and tv off one night just to get them to leave. I could not believe how rude some visitors can be.

Comments: When I was going to Franklin Square for some of my presurgical tests, everyone was so friendly and nice that I couldn't believe it. I hoped that during my stay everyone would be too. They were! Everytime I needed anything they were right there. I liked the way that the nurses and techs signed in on a board in my room to let me know who was on duty at any given moment. They would even stop in just to ask if you needed any thing. I was pleasently surprised at the wonderful care I recieved.

How Selected: The surgeon seleted this hospital
Competitors: The was the worst hospital stay I ever had...anywhere.
Comments: The staff made me feel as if I was a bother. When I first woke up in the room nobody could tell me where my husband was, I couldn't call him (I live in PA now and it was long distance). I didn't have a trapeze bar for the first day and a half. Nobody ever helped me out of bed, I did everything on my own. I only called for assistance for two things to plug the IV pump back in and for pain meds and that seemed like a huge bother to them. If I had a choice I would never stay at Franklin Square. One other bummer, the TV is shared with your room mate.

Competitors: In 1999 I gave birth to my son at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD. This is suppose to be a premiere hospital. I was in the hospital for a month with pre-eclampsia, then for an infected c-section. I THOUGHT THIS HOSPITAL WAS ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. Franklin Square Hospital was much, much better.
Comments: The nursing staff at Franklin Square were excellent. They responded promptly with medication when I needed it, helped me out of bed when I needed it...they were absolutely excellent!! I am so glad I had this surgery at Franklin Square, I was very happy.

Comments: People were super. Planning was poor- I had the window bed and my roommate had a knee replacement, was immobile and closer to the bathroom. I had to wind my way around her apparatus to get to the bathroom. She had excessive (and very young) visitors until I complained to a nurse.

Comments: It was not comfortable, the staff was o.k.,they did not go out of their way to see if I needed anything, but gave pain meds when I asked and other shots as requires. My meals were incorrect for a WL patient. I would say they did what they HAD to do, but not much more.

Competitors: Hard to compare because it's been many, many years since my last hospital stay.
Comments: My stay at this hospital was a pretty good one with the exception of 1 night. My roommate and I were awoken just about every hour (it seemed like) to have our vitals taken - if it wasnt my turn, it was my roommates turn. The nurse would turn on the overhead light instead of the individuals' light.

Comments: It's hard to judge this hospital because I wasn't on the usual floor for bariatric patients I was on a differnet floor and they had no experience at all with WLS pts. They tried to make me eat the day after sugery. When I went in to have hernia repair I was on the floor for bariatric pts. and it was much better.

Comments: It was really helpful to have my husband and sister-in-law (a nurse) there with me alot to assit me.
