How Selected: Dr. Felix chose it.
Competitors: I have never had an experience this bad. Ex: Upon coming out of anaesthesia I was told there were no beds for me but that "we'd have more room if it wasn't for all the "fatties" in there."
Comments: My surgery was far easier than anticipated. Dr. Felix was a master. My hospital experience was horrendous. I had no bed for 48 hours (was kept in post op) an then was given an attitude every time I had to go to the bathroom (I had no catheter and a full out IV in my arm!). The night nurse told me she wanted me to take sleeping pills so she didn't have to help me and the one time I DID ask for pain meds, it took them 45 minutes to respond! HORRIBLE PLACE! I think I would die first before going there again!

How Selected: Dr. Gladen was contracting with this facility and they had performed this surgery many times so the nursing staff was very use to dealing with and interacting with obese patients and were awesome!!!
Competitors: Fresno Community is an older hospital but did not lack in anything important in taking care of my needs during my stay.

How Selected: I feel my doctor chose it for me. I didn't realize I could have had a better experience at Fresno Surgery Center. At my post op appointment, there was 5 of us there. 3 from Clovis and 2 from Fresno Surger Center. The 3 with bad experiences were from Clovis and the 2 with good experiences were from Fresno Surger Center.
Competitors: I feel I would have been happier at Fresno Surgery Center. The two girls I talked to had great experiences
Comments: I was disappointed. They didn't write down correct water intake, so my doctor yelled at me because I wasn't drinking enough water. They didn't listen when I told them my back was hurting during the day. It took the night nurse at midnight to call my doctor to get something because I couldn't sleep. This could have been taken care of during the day. My day nurse was a miserable person and unhappy. She made everyone around unhappy. I was glad to leave. My night nurse was wonderful and I wish he would have been the day nurse because your awake more during the day.

Competitors: They are understaffed putting to much pressure on 1 nurse to care for several patients
Comments: I really believe the nurses are all great, they just didnt have enough of them,so it made it tough when they were busy and you were in need you had to wait, longer than you should

How Selected: I wanted to have my own room. Also they allowed my mom to stay overnight.
Competitors: Excellent. It dident feel as i was in a hospital, more of a hotel with nurses.
Comments: Nurses were great they were there at my every beck an call. another thing i liked about Fresno Surgery Ctr was there was fewer pts per nurses. My nurse was only taking care of 3 of us. I felt like she was more available for my needs when they arose.

How Selected: This was the only in-network hospital available to me.
Comments: My experiences with the nurses was great. I had the same incredible RN during the day for my entire stay. However the nursing assistants were the worst. I almost fell out of bed once when they were taking me to the bathroom (dropped the rail, rolled me over then walked away) and my husband came into the room and caught me. They lacked proper equiptment for MOs such as BP cuffs. I left the hospital bruised from shoulder to elbow on the right side due being forced into a normal size cuff. The NAs never emptied the urine hats and bending over to do this was difficult. It was also not pleasant when you have a roommate. I did follow up with a letter and recieved a phone call from the nursing supervisor. He explained that he was taking action, what he was doing and future precautions/actions that would be taken. I just hope they follow through.

How Selected: This was the nearest hospital that Dr. Parvez utilized that was approved by my insurance.
Competitors: The only other hospital I know is Kaweah Delta in Visalia, CA. Run much of the same way, but I feel Fresno Community would benefit by giving patients more space, the rooms are incredably small. They are currently remodeling, so perhaps there will be some changes.
Comments: Overall, I would recommend the hospital to someone having a gastric bypass surgury, because they have a large amount of bariatric patients treated at the hospital.

How Selected: It was the hospital that the surgeon I chose performed the procedure at.
Competitors: I would consider it an above-average facility. I would recommend it to others.
Comments: The floor that I was on handled mostly bariatric surgery patients, therefore they were very knowlegable about the procedure and the special needs of the patients.

Competitors: The nursing staff were very attentive to any issue I may have. I had a room with one other person, but she had tons of visitors... otherwise I would have had a more restful experience.
Comments: General treatment of bariatric patients is optimal.

How Selected: My mother had the same operation at FCH and they were very good to her then so that is why I had the operation there.
Competitors: Fresno Community Hospital is a very good Hospital. The best in Fresno as far has I am concerned.
Comments: I like the set up that FCH has and the way that everything was done. If I had a complaint it would be that the rooms are too small and it is hard to get around in them. But I am sure that it is the same in other hospitals. They were very busy but always treated me well.
