| I work for a hospital in the CHS system.
Any hospital in the network will recieve the same benifits as we do for our hospital. Which meant I could have the surgery and my benifits for working in a CHS hospital now carried over to our sister hospitals. Gateway was the closest in the network that actually had a bariatric department. |
| Competitors: |
Well one kudo is that they have private rooms. Which is fabulous, because the last thing you want to do when you have major surgery is have to share it with another sick patient. |
| Comments: |
The hospital has just built a new state of the art hospital a few miles away. They will be moving in several weeks to the new hospital so anything that I have to say about the old hospital would be mute.
The nurses were great. I also have to say that Dr. Bolar was wonderful doing rounds. I mean I never once had to wait all day for him to do his check in's. He was there by 10:00am everyday. That kind of reliability is hard to find. |

My stay was horrible the nurses were rude it took them 15 mins to come to my room to change my IV, also my PCA stopped and i kept telling the nurse and she told me to lay down that it was working I just needed to rest ,I was in pain so I asked for the head nurse, when the head nurse came she found out that I went about 3 hrs without my pain meds and I keep telling the nurse but she wouldn't listen. After I got the head nurse involved my stay after that was ok. If i had a choice I would have never went to Gateway. |

I personally thought the hospital left alot to be desired. The Nurses were ok on the day shift but the night shift nurses were the greatest. |

I have had many surgeries, in Colorado, and they are all on another plane of existence than Gateway. The MALE nurses were horrible and intimidating when I asked for help, and there were never any REAL options for pain relief. I am allergic to most analgesics, and no one would help me fight the pain. I was left to suffer alone. |

My Surgeon, Dr. W. Steely was near perfect. Kind, caring, with excellent bedside manner. He is very thorough and even gives preventive post op breathing treatments to ward off potential breathing problems. He has studied bariatric surgery extensively in Australia. I recommend his services without reservation. |

Gateway Health Services in Clarksville, Tennessee was outstanding. This hospital bends over backwards to please their patients. They even give you LipBalm postop! My unit, (3-North) gave professional, competent Nursing care. All Nurses (especially Terry, Self, RN, BSN) had positive attitudes & were prompt with medication & answering call lights. The Resp. Dept. were outstanding & diligent in their bedside care, (especially Carrie Hill, RT). I really appreciate the fact that all Depts. were well coordinated & efficient. As a Nurse, I was overwhelmed with the professionalism that this facility exhibited. They even gave me a call after discharge to follow up on my progress! |

It was horrible , the aide dropped me in the floor even after I told him I was slidding because he didn't know how to use the bed controls, luckily the resp therapitist walked it and yelled for hlep becasue she told him to press the call button but he just stood there, Also I had to wait 6.5 hours before I was took to surgery from the time that I was told to be at the hopst. imagine waiting scared as you can be for nearly 7 hrs it was nerve racking then all the things that happen after surgery like after I done the swallow test to make sure my band was placed right I told them I had to use the restroom they knew I had just woke up less then 30 mins ago so I was still shakey and I told them that but they just pointed the way and left me alone I barely made and to be honest I do not know how. After all that I told 3 people that my call button didn't work they didn't check it then my iv came out so I was not getting pain meds for 45 mins durning that time I had to physical yell for help the first person I told said that it was fine and the knot that came up was due to me laying me hand on the bed he left like that until I yelled again.
The next day when I told my dr DR Hruska that they dropped me she was a unconcern she just said that well how tall are you 5 ;5 well you didnt' fall very far did you |

It is the only hospital I have ever been in but I had read bad reviews but I thought it was excellent. The respiratory team was especially great. I did have someone with me 24/7 and the nurses relied on that a little too much but they are very busy. Everytime I needed something from the nurses they were there to help. |

The hospital was great as was the majority of the staff. Of course everyone isn't perfect but they were pretty great overall. Actually, I was more comfortable and happier in the hospital than I was the first few days back at home. |

The worse I've ever been a patient in. |
| Comments: |
This is the worst hospital I have ever been a patient in. I have had several hospital stays in different hospitals, but this is by far the worst I've ever been in. The nurses are LAZY!!!! It seems like they wait until you are resting well to disturb you. Hospital stays aren't that comfortable to begin with, but they make sure you never want to come back. When asked for assistance, they act like you are bothering them instead of doing their jobs. I always thought people who work in the medical field should be compassionate people. If so, these nurses need a refresher's course, and could use an extra dosage of bedside manners. |

I would have given higher marks except I had a bad experience was some of the daytime nurses. Two of them were absolutely horrible to me. They treated me like I was something horrible because of my size. They would not call the doctor to get me pain meds that would work. One of them even yanked on my drain tube and shoved it back in. HOWEVER, the nighttime nurses and the techs in the daytime & nighttime were EXCELLENT. One nurse in particular was a lady named Bev who worked evenings/nights. She was very caring and always cheered me on when I would walk to halls. She even offered several times to walk with me. Please know that not all the nurse are bad. It was just two of them that were mean to me. It is also important to know that this hospital does not have chairs to fit super obese people in the waiting rooms. But I did have a staff member find one that I could just barely fit in. I wish they would get some armless chairs or bigger chairs. |

Overall care was great. I only did not appreciate two nurses. They were not really mean to me but they could have been more considerate. One nurse had to come in on her day off so she was cranky. I believe if you are cranky it will rub off on the patient. You should make them feel good. The other nurse was not considerate of my daughter staying with me alone with out her father. She is 12yr. But that is ok, I know she done it for safety reasons and I understand. I just had been off Zoloft for a few days. I like to brag on nurse. Her name is Ester. If you are lucky to get her, be assured she will take care of you! She is so nice and understanding. She will do everything to make sure you are comfortable.

| Comments: |
I had an ok stay at this hospital. They were wonderful about letting my mom and my six year old nephew stay with me in my room. The only issues I had were when my IV machine was empty and was beeping. I would call the nurse station and let them know but it would take a while for someone to come. One time it took 20 min for someone to come and the person that came wasn't coming for that reason she was just checking up on me. The second issue I had is when I asked for a bath. The CNA came in got everything ready and then just handed me the washclothes for me to wash myself. I mean I haven't been able to take a tub bath for a couple of years now no way I can wash anything past the incision now. Other than the above mentioned incidents my stay was ok. For the most part the nursing staff was very genuine and caring for their patients. |

the hospital itself was fine. the nurses and CNTs on my post-op floor were horrible. 1 lied on my medical chart 3 times, another made fun of me for needing her help, another unplugged my IV (pain medicine!!!) and left it unplugged all night long - even tho i repeatedly buzzed the desk asking for help. |

It's a bit older and smaller but it is very adequate for handling the type of procedure I had, and others for that matter. |
| Comments: |
The only complaint I have is that on two occasions when I needed assistance getting up to go to the restroom, the gal at the nurses desk did not get my nurse to help me and I ended up doing it myself which frightened me a little. Otherwise, the nurses themselves were REALLY sweet and caring gals who take good care of their patients! I had a private room for the first time and although there ARE those times when they're waking you up at 2 am for some test or another, I was fairly well rested during my time in. I even had a couple of sponge baths, which I thought would be humiliating but found to be VERY relaxing!! I would recommend this facility to others! |

I had to have a lot of pre-op and they were very prompt in getting it done. |
| Comments: |
The 3rd floor nursing staff was AWSOME. I spiked a temp of 102 and my nurse spent an hour in the room with me trying everything to break it. I also got very dizzy when walking one day and they grabbed a chair and then got a wheelchair and took me back to my room. |

There is only one other and I have never been there. |
| Comments: |
The hospital itself overall was not bad, but the nursing staff lacks alot. While a few were very helpful and kind, many of the nurses were rude, hateful, and incompetent. One in particular had to be banned from my room by the nurse manager for being very nasty and physically rough with me before any pain medications had kicked in a few hours after surgery. They will not answer the call button unless a family member walks to the nurses station. Sadly, there were a couple of good ones in the bunch who probably don't get enough credit due to their co-workers.

My overall stay was very good. Short staffing causes problems getting somethings done but the nurses and techs. did the best they could. |

I had a good experience there, they were sensitive to my needs, even getting me a bigger bed, brand new, that was more comfortable for me being overweight. |

everyone i came into contact with was friendly, made eye contact and spoke. this was also true with pre testing and admitting process. |
