About this Hospital

About Georgetown Community Hospital
Georgetown Community Hospital is located in Georgetown, Kentucky, just 12 miles north of Lexington. The hospital primarily serves patients in Scott and surrounding counties, while the bariatric program draws patients from all over the state as well as outside the state of Kentucky.
The Bariatric Center at Georgetown Community Hospital

The Bariatric Center at Georgetown Community Hospital offers a skilled bariatric facility designated as a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. This designation is awarded based on evaluation of the entire facility and staff, as well as our surgeons. To achieve this designation, hospitals must demonstrate excellent outcomes for their patients, as our hospital consistently does.

We have the most advanced laparoscopic equipment available in our state-of-the-art ICU/OR suites. Our new Bariatric Care Unit is designed to better accommodate our weight loss surgery patients. Both our Program Director/Nurse Practitioner and our Nurse Education Coordinator have had weight loss surgery themselves, and are able to offer a professional as well as a personal perspective to our patients.

Our team includes board-certified surgeons, a registered dietician, an education and support coordinator, surgical staff and many other professionals dedicated to educating our patients about their surgical options and the lifestyle changes needed to ensure success. This team follows each patient from intake through surgery and follow-up aftercare to provide the comprehensive support our patients have come to expect.

According to the ASMBS, patients have better surgical outcomes, decreased cost and decreased length of stay in small community hospitals versus larger teaching hospitals – a difference attributed to better continuity of care for the patients.

The surgical options available at Georgetown Community Hospital include the Roux-en-Y, Sleeve Gastrectomy and Adjustable Gastric Banding, all done laparoscopically, as well as the new ROSE restorative surgery, which is done endoscopically.

We recommend that you attend an informational seminar, as well as a support group meeting early on in the process. These are scheduled bi-weekly and monthly at various locations. We also schedule informational seminars periodically in other cities across Kentucky. Contact us at 888-868-0008 to sign up for a seminar, or obtain upcoming dates/schedules. For more information, visit our website: www.GeorgetownBariatrics.com.

We look forward to meeting you and assisting you in your weight loss surgery journey to a better and healthier life.

How Selected: Internet search. I was looking for a local hospital/bariatric program that could do the procedure laproscopically as I had had previous bad experiences with open incision surgeries due to my wgt.
Competitors: I feel that this hospital and its staff rate higher than most of the hospitals in my area. If I have to have anything else that might require a hospital stay, this hospital would be my first preference.
Comments: Overall, the hospital and its staff have been extremely efficient in completing testing in a very timely manner. I never had a really long wait when I was in the pre op testing phase of the program. The staff are very knowledgable in the field of bariatrics. The ongoing teaching and education would be hard to match. The pre op classes, and ongoing support and training that is offered to their patients post op and pre op don't compare to the other bariatric programs that I researched before making my decision. The ongoing enthusiasm and continued support that is offered by their program employees as well as their hospital staff is outstanding. By the time I had my surgery date, I was totally comfortable in the decision that I had made.

How Selected: Covered under my specific insurance as well as recommendations from friends and family.
Competitors: Other facilities don't even compare to Georgetown and the staff at this facility. They go above and beyond to make sure your experience is positive and your results are exceptional.
Comments: Since most of the staff are post op patient's also, they knew what I was going through and were able to explain first hand what was going on and why and how to get through it. The were receptive, caring, understanding and more importantly they made me feel like I was the only patient they had to work with which made my experience incredible. In addition, my sister was allowed to stay in the ICU with me the first night which alleviated some of my anxiety. I have referred patient's to Georgetown and I will continue to refer them to this facility. If any of your friends or family are anticipating this surgery, they would make the best decision of their lives if they chose Georgetown Community Hospital!!!!

Everyone there was so accomodating and genuinely cared about you and your health, well being and comfort. I never wanted for anything. If I ever had to have another surgery, I would definitely choose GCH. There is a reason they are a Center of Excellence. I would recommend them to anyone along with my surgeon Dr. George Derek Weiss.
