This is the first time I have been in a hospital in this area and I found it to be outstanding. |

All the nurses and aides that helped me thru the surgery and convalescence were great. When I needed something they were right there and really made an effort to make sure I was comfortable. They also made sure I did the steps to ensure a healthy recovery. |

I have never had to stay in any other hospital so I can't really say. |

I had back surgery here last July. It was actually outpatient, so i didn't stay but the one day in short stay area. The same area my WLS surgery started in. Everyone was nice and efficient and I have only one complaint for that section, and that was from the back surgery. I was scheduled to go in for surgery at 10:00 am. I didn't go in until 2:30 pm. The wait wasn't such a big deal, the doctor had a surgery previous to mine that became a bigger time sink than had been expected. What I DID have an issue with was, no one bothered to let us know what was happening. So I am expecting to go to surgery any minute, and the time keeps ticking away. The lack of communication was irritating.
On to the WLS surgery, i was first operation of the morning at 7:30 am. This one was right on time. Everything went just fine, I only stayed one night at the hospital. The nurses and CNA's that cared for me were all very polite and all seemed pretty well aware that I was a bariatric patient and what I could or could not have. (None of those stories of them bringing me a regular dinner tray).
I had one very young nurse that although was nice, was not very good at being timely. In fact, that whole shift seemed to be very young folks and they were not as fast to respond to requests for more ice for example, or were slower to respond if I hit the call button. (And I rarely hit the call button, so I wasn't being a pest unless absolutely necessary. Other than that everything was just great, and even that wasn't a real big deal to me, i was still in enough pain, I was sleeping quite a bit.
There is a Physical Therapist there named Wendy that came in to see me both days, she is AWESOME! Damn good at what she does, and a very nice person. I didn't really get attached to anyone that I would much care to go back and say Hi to except her. If you are lucky enough to have her come work with you, you are lucky and tell her I said Hi.
OK, long story short, no horror stories from me. The hospital experience was just fine and I have no real complaints. |

I was in a private room. I woke up in pain soon after surgery and kept pushing my nurse button. No nurse in site for about 5 minutes. Doesn't seem long, but when you are in pain it is. They forgot to tell me I had a pump and finally game me my magic button then. My room was next to some sort of conference room. My final night around 11pm they decided to conference about another patient right outside my door. Other then those things the stay was pretty good! The staff was Excellent! |

Every experience from when I first got admitted, the surgery, the recovery and up to when I was taken to my room was fantastic. Every staff member made me feel comfortable and understood that I was nervous. If I had any questions they answered them honestlly. They were very respectful and made sure that I was comfortable at all times. However, when I was moved to my room, I had some difficulties getting my ice chips on the hour. Hydration is extremely important and I was supposed to have 2 ounces of ice chips every hour. Sometimes it would be over two hours before a nurse would bring me some. My family had to track down nurses a number of times to get their attention. I think part of the "problem" was that there probably isn't a lot of training on handling bariatric patients. I had one CNA that was supposed to take me walking and she didnt help me at all to get out of bed. I ended up hurting myself unnecessarily. I later learned that she was supposed to teach me how to get out of bed without straining my stomach. All in all, it was an OK visit. Everyone there was very nice and courteous, but just seemed like they were too busy sometimes to meet my needs. Perhaps other programs have just a few specifically trained nurses assigned to each patient. That would have been better for me. |

The only detractors from my stay were parking difficulties for my family/visitors and a lot of disturbing noises from the patient next door. I was so impressed and blessed by the staff and services at GSRMC! |
