How Selected: I was at the hospital that my surgeon has priveliges.
Competitors: It is just a good as the other hospitals in my area.
Comments: I felt that the radiology staff need patient sensitivity lessons. I was 1 day post-op and had to have yet another test, but was never told that I had to stay for 3 hours on this narrow gurney in a hallway and staff was acting as if noone was there. In general physicians, nursing and dietary staff were excellent in their approach and care of the overweight patient.

How Selected: Surgeon was affiliated with this hospital. At the time, it was the closest hospital in the tri-state area performing the surgery.
Competitors: I liked the fact that it had a separate unit for Bariatric patients. I was less self-concious and more comfortable around patients getting the same procedure.
Comments: Clean, attentive staff. Generally good service.

How Selected: My doctor works at that hospital. I've also been there before. It's a wonderful hospital.
Competitors: compare to Southside hospital in Bayshore, Good Sam is so much better. The staff is more attentive to the patients. The medical care is much better also.
Comments: I enjoyed my stay at Good Sam Hospital. The entire staff were some of the most friendliest people I've ever met. They really went out of their way to make me feel comfortable.

Competitors: THIS WAS MY FIRST SURGERY.

How Selected: My surgeon, Dr. Cussatti performs his surgeries at Good Samaritan Hospital, so I did not have a choice of hospitals. That did not mean it was negative at all, infact I was very pleased with the hospital's performance.
Competitors: I only had one prior surgery at a different hospital in Suffolk County, and that hospital was also very good. No complaints about Good Sam Hospital.
Comments: The day and night staff were both very accommodating. If I needed any pain medication, I received it in less than 10 minutes, and only needed to ring the call bell once. They checked in on me frequently. The staff on the 4th floor are exceptional.

Comments: This was my 2nd stay over for Bariatric surgery and at first I was a bit upset with having to go to 4N because I still was having nightmares about how I was treated back on 1/9/04, but I am happy to report that things have IMPROVED 100%. The nursing staff was EXCELLENT. They took excellent care of me and all my little needs were met in a VERY timely fashion. The Physical Thearpy dept. was also great.
