How Selected: When I spoke to the Dr. Office they suggested this hospital because it has a bariatric program for free, I get to talk with a nutritionlist any I need to, they also have these classes you attend (1 month pre op, 1,3,6 month post op) these classes are very informative.
Competitors: I havent been to any other hopital in Bay county, I did go to Bay medical for blood work 1 time and would never go back again. I dont think they know what they are doing over there.
Comments: From the time I signed in to the time I left, I was treated with the utmost respect. They were very kind and considerate. They helped me when ever I needed it. I would recommend this hospital to anyone. Some of the nurses have had this surgery done so they can relate and know what you are going through because they have done this before.

How Selected: I work for doctors and this is the only hospital they use...also closer to my house.
Competitors: Supposed to have been a better "quality" hospital...but there were some important things forgotten in my case, i.e. my sedative before surgery, my gallbladder at surgery by my surgeon, my liquid diet the day after I was started on it. It doesn't give you a lot of confidence in the professionals who work there!!!
Comments: This was my second time at this hospital, the first for delivery of my child, when was the only hospital my doctor used. I would go back if I had to, but I try to refrain from going to any hospital at all unless to visit!!

Competitors: My brother has much more experience in dealing with hospitals, and he told me a few weeks after surgery that the staff was most unprofessional in many aspects. First, when I got to the waiting area, the nures drew blood in a large room full of other patients and their families and friends. When I was finally taken back to get undressed for surgery, we were told that my family would have a chance to tell me goodbye before I was wheeled into the OR. My brother wanted to have prayer with me.
Comments: My only complaint was with dietician Patty Bernstein. She came in to see me in the afternoon after surgery. I was still quite groggy. She hurriedly gave me some instructions, then told me that she would be on vaction for the next three weeks. She said if I had any questions, to call Cindy Shipman, the dietcian at the other local hospital. I tried to take notes, and after looking at them later, I could barely understand my own writing, I was so out of it. She should have recognized that and at least made sure that I was writing down what I needed to. Although my mother was in the room, she is 75 and could not take notes due to macular degeneration. I had been give a pamphlet early in the process, but Bernstein said my surgeon had just made several changes regarding the foods for weeks one and two. I did become dehydrated several days post op, and had to call Cindy Shipman, who I already knew. Cindy was most helpful.
