How Selected: It is the hospital my surgeon is affiliated with, so I really had no choice.
Competitors: I was in-patient at two other hospitals in Phila for childbirth and they were both far more professional and courtious.
Comments: I believe I was on the general surgery post-op floor so there was all kinds of different pts recovering, not just WLS patients. The staff was very busy but after ringing my call bell TWICE with no response I finally had to call for a supervisor! The floor was very noisy throughout the night with patients literally screaming "Nurse Nurse" or the employees being loud. I was very disappointed with the care. Not to mention that NOT one of my nurses even checked my incision sites, AND one of them never even heard of WLS!!?? Seriously, she couldn't even pronounce adjustable banded gastroplasty. That made me very uneasy. Also, the day of and the day after the surgery your only able to eat ice chips. Well, they refused to give me a spoon to eat them off of. I had to put my hand inside the cup to eat them which was ok untill it was half melted. They said they dont have a cafeteria or break room on the floor. I even asked one nurse to please get me one when the food was brought up for the other patients. No. I had to use my hand.

Comments: Ive spent a lot of time in different hospitals in NY and PA since 1980. Hahnemann Hosp. has all the same issues as the others when it comes to staff who have been working in health care too long, or staff who have minimal training or experience dealing with a vulnerable population. They were exceptionally quiet in the unit I stayed in, which was very nice. As far as with any hospital, you need to be verbally assertive to receive proper treatment, or have an assertive family member or friend do it on your behalf. Otherwise, your treatment will be provided at the staff's convenience.

Competitors: I never want to go back there!
Comments: I have never been in a hospital that was as dirty as this one! My bathroom had dried urine all over the floor and smelled so horrible. I complained, but there was no offer to have it cleaned. I waited hours for a urine measuring devise and hours for medications, when they were available. I told my day nurse, my head was killing me and making my stomach feel sick. He said, "yeah, so is mine". After I started getting sickerand feeling like I would vomit, he said" most people feel better after they vomit" I'm not a rocket scientists BUT, that does not sound like something you should do after gastic bypass surgery! One N/A tried taking my blood pressure with the cuff at my wrist! I could go on and on about things that happened in my short stay. I had one night nurse, I think her name was "Narosa", I think she was an angel sent by God. She got me all the medications that were ordered and fixed leg wraps that help circulate that no one else seems to care about. She was a care giver in the highest sense.

Comments: The nursing staff was definetly short handed, but I guess they did the best they could. Some of the nurses were very unconcerned with some duties.
