other than giving birth to my daughter i have not been in the hospital so i will say that everything was average. I was not in any pain and the nurses' on staff came frequently to check on me. |

This hospital is excellent for bariatric procedures as long as the surgery is performed by either Dr. Wood or Dr. Taylor. They both are great doctors and has a superb reputation. Most EXCELLENT bedside mannors. |

| I had no choice... it was the hospital Cori centers used. Although Cori is not helpful at all, the nurses at Harper were the best nurses I have ever had! |

| The CORI Center was willing to help me with my insurance company and all of the billing issues. I also prayed about which health care provider to use and Harper Hospital was the clear chioce. |

I don't think the hospital should advertise how much better they have improved if they have not really done it. How bad was it before? I did not see as much professionalism as I would have expected from a hospital that is advervising how much they have improved. At Beaumont if a patient is going for testing on a strecherany staff members must exit the evavator and wait for another elavator. I told the nurse before I went in for surgery that I had to go to the bathroom, she made me wait 20 minutes.Then my nurse went on break and the covering nurse nerve checked on my while I was waiting for surgery. The worse thing was when I went in for pre-surgical testing the tech did not put the electrodes on properly so it made my EKG come out abnormal, to say the least I was a little pissed off when my surgery was rescheduled due to their mistake.

| Competitors: |
I am not familiar with any other local hospitals in this area. However I did prefer this hospital's smaller size versus a large place like University of Michigan Hospital. |

I enjoyed my stay here. My room was very clean and comfortable. I had a wonderful set of nurses that were extremely responsive and helpful. I always felt safe and that I was in good care. They helped to make this a very positive experience for me. |

Dr. Wood and his surgical team were wonderful. The staff at CORI are the same. I would recommend them to anyone.
The only reason I address the issue with the pain meds is because I addressed my allergic reaction to the medications used in the epidural before surgery with the Anesthesiologist and still came out of surgery with the same results. I had to wait hours for them to put me on the right type of post op pain medication. So, my advice is, if you know you are allergic to a certain medication be your own advocate and demand that they hear you when you say you cannot tolerate certain drugs. |

Not thrilled with the hospital. Contracted Hep C from the gastric bypass procedure and spent 48 weeks treating the disease. |

I loved not only my Dr. but the staff as well. They were compassionate, concerend, and very attentive to your needs. It was a clean facility and I enjoyed my stay very much. |

Poorly. The response of the nurses was terrible in terms of having to wait for pain medication and helping in other ways such as the incessant beeping of an occluded IV or empty IV bag. I had to physically walk down to the nurses station, beeping IV, pushing all the way (exercise is good, but this was ridiculous)....as I got tired of pushing the "silence" button myself. If not, I would have had to listen to it for HOURS. |

I had a very bad experience at Harper Hospital. I'm very glad my husband was with me to provide the help I needed. I was not getting it from the nurses. They seemed to be very "cold" to me. That is not how you want to be treated after major surgery. I hope I never have to return to that hospital. |

The staff was excellent at sticking me with needles, I didn't feel the pain of the epidural, IV, or any blood withdraws. The biggest complaint I have is the day shift nurse I had, she didn't want to help me, it took her over 45 minutes to respond to my call, if she came at all. There was also no trapese above my bed and I was told there were none available yet I'm on a baratric floor that does stomach surgeries???? |

I have absolutely no complaints about Harper Hospital. The staff was GREAT from beginning to end. I had a private room with my own bathroom/shower and it was, for a hospital, relatively quiet. I was able to sleep at night which I don't think I can say about any other hospital I've been in. The environment was clean and the room was pleasant. no complaints at all. |

| Even though this is the hospital that my surgeon uses,( whom I would follow to whatever hospital, but glad he chose the DMC system). I have been a patient in Harper before and I have always had a great experience. I'm also a former employee of the Harper~Hutzel system. I feel the nurses and PCA's are great and were very attentive to all of my needs during my stay.
I was seen by a general medicine doc during my stay both days that I was there and he was also GREAT!!! |

Everything was great, except that they're understaffed on the night shift. Took me an hour just to get some ice chips. And it took transport forever to come get me when I was discharged. Other than that, you can't ask for a more caring, personable staff. I got hugs from several of the RN's and PCA's before leaving... they were awesome. A "well oiled machine" as far as getting you thru the admission process. Everything went very smooth. |

My overall opinion of the hospital, its staff and my surgeon were very good. There was an issue regarding my epidural which affected certain element of my pain control which I found very frustrating, but that was, ultimately, resolved. |

I would rate Harper as excellent I am not from the Detrot area and I was a lil apprehensive of the downtown area but all of my fears were for nothing Harper was awesome! |

I was treated better here then any hospital I have been to. I highly reccomend it. My nurses and nurses aides were so great especially my aide Sandra who even washed my hair for me which as such a luxury in the hospital. |

Harper Hospital in Detroit, MI gets a AAA+ grade from me. I was blessed to have a very nice room with the view of the park and a walk in shower. The nurses were very caring and sweet. I felt pampered and blessed to be under their care. |

My evening and night nurses were excellent. But when I really needed help during the day , the day nurses and aides were never around, never offered assistance and were not very thoughtful.
One aide stripped my bed then disappeared, I had to ask for it to be made 3 times so I could get back in bed and it took over an hour to get it done. Aides were also not thoughtful when making the beds and moving your stuff. They would move nurse call button to areas not possible to reach from where I was.
During the day I was pretty much on my own , any time I needed assistance I had to ask and wait. |

I've only been to a couple hospitals, mostly for my mom so this was my first 'real' stay for myself. |

I was unable to shower and not once was I offered a sponge bath. While they had to wake me up in the night to check vitals,etc... they were rather loud while talking with coworkers. I did have a couple really nice nurses/PCA's... Princess, Pat, Michelle. I need help getting underwear on since I started my cycle and they didn't flinch. They were nice about giving me something for my nausea caused by the morphine. My suggestion is to have a credit card on hand to pay for the phone and TV (about $7.50 a day) or you will be very bored and it's hard to read, believe it or not. They don't talk much while you are walking in the hall but some will smile in an encouraging way. Had time getting parking done the morning of surgery (4:30am) since it wasn't fully explained to just pull up to the vistor garage outside of the Hutzel entrance and honk for a security guard to let you in so you are driving around unsure of where to park. The Main Harper entrance didn't open till 5am and I was told to go there. Thank God for those that work there and smoke (I quit 7yrs ago). She helped and suggested talking to Hutzels hosptial. Still ok and would go there again... |

During my stay in this hospital I found the staff to be very understanding, helping, and down to earth. The made me feel like a friend and not a patient. The provided me with all the privacy and rest I needed. I would gladly recommend this hospital to future WLS patients. |
