How Selected: This is the hospital that teaches the pre and post op classes for this surgery. I could not have asked for better care.
Competitors: In Canada the nurses are overworked and under paid. The nurses at the hospital catered to my every need and did so with a smile. I felt like family by the end of my 5 day hospital stay.
Comments: I loved the private room and my mother loved the coffee from the cafeteria. The nurses were truly amazing.

How Selected: I did alot of research on hospitals in my city and state, and then I did for my surrounding city and state.
Competitors: There were very patient in helpinh me with everything.
Comments: I would reccomend this hospital to anyone I know as well as the doctor.

How Selected: It was closer to home than the other Henry Ford hospitals.
Competitors: I like the smallness of this hospital, no parking garages!
Comments: Bi County was a great experience, if you have to go to a hospital, this one is great! Everyone is so very nice and always has time for you.

How Selected: This hospital is where my surgeon, Dr. Pesta, performs the surgeries.
Competitors: I have never stayed at other hospitals in the area, so would not have anything to compare to.
Comments: The staff was excellent. Very friendly. One aide (on night shift) was not as friendly as the rest, but she was tolerable. Surgery was 7/3 and with being close to holiday I did not get many visitors - personal or professional. On 7/5 my room was like a revolving door. Lots of people coming in to check up on me. One nurse offered to bring me additional pillows, to help my comfort level. An aide put an additional blanket on me one night when I was cold. Would rate this hospital as excellent!

How Selected: This was the hospital that my surgeon and LivLite recommended. I was so at ease here!
Competitors: This hospital is not local to me... It is about 2 hours away and I wouldn't go to my local hospitals as I hadn't heard any personal experience with the local hospitals.
Comments: The staff (especially Mary Anne) were fantastic! I was almost sorry to be discharged to go home!

How Selected: I chose Liv Lite and Dr. Pesta and this is the only hospital they do the wls out of .
Competitors: I have been in several different hospitals in michigan even one in Jan 2006 and this hospital was by far the best when it came to the attentiveness of the nursing staff. Only one male nurse gave me several problems and hassles about my meds. Every nurse especially Sharon (days) and Andy (afternoons)and Jackie (afternoon) then Pca's MARY ANN (THE BEST PCA (NURSE IN MY EYES) I HAVE EVER MET. I filled out a shining star for like 20 some nurse / pca staff. The nutrition dept was poor I never received my meals at the same time and they were not consistent with what I was supposed to be consuming. This hospital could was great minus the nurse who was very mean and caused me a panick attack (not the hospital's fault)
Comments: I loved my room it was like being in a nice motel not a smelly dirty hospital room at other hospitals. I stayed at Bon Secours in Jan and had to beg for my pain meds this hospital for the most part had its act together with my med schedule they also did not try to push me out the door when I told them I was not ready to be discharged they allowed me to stay longer (pain uncontrolable (still is) I love the anesthesia staff, pre surgical screening admitting I guess you could say everyone. All most all of the nurses and pca's were very supportive of me and my daily progress with walking and always went above the call of duty to make me happy and comfortable. They allowed my best friend / boy friend to stay the night the first and the last night I was in the hospital and they never told me my guests had to leave. Sharon and Mary Ann were very helpfull, caring and patient with me. They taught me important things to know about dealing with the pain after surgery and how to get around with the pain of gettting up and down. I will go to this hospital for all future illnesses and after reviewing their ob floor maybe have my first child there too. THANK YOU HF BI- COUNTY FOR TAKING SUCH GOOD CARE OF ME! I AM STILL IN PAIN BUT I AM DOING GREAT OTHER WISE. YOU ARE THE BEST HOSPITAL STAFF IN MICHIGAN (AND I USED TO WORK FOR A HOSPITAL SO I AM BIAS LOL)

How Selected: I use to work there and there are still alot of people that work there that i knew from when i did. I chose it from personal experience.
Competitors: Its close to where I live and I am familiar with the staff.
Comments: The hospital has done alot of updates since i worked ther it is very clean and the staff is very pleasant.

Competitors: I have only been admitted into 2 hospitals and both stays were great.
Comments: Maryanne and Rosanne were my nurses and they were just wonderful. I couldn't have prayed for a better experience.

How Selected: cleaness, helpful, kind, informative, caters to the plus size paitents in every way, wheelchairs, chairs, washrooms, beds ect
Competitors: never been to a hospital so well equiped for the plus size person

How Selected: It was the hospital my surgeon worked with.
Competitors: It is very small, and the bariatric unit have very knowledgable staff, and sensetive staff of the bariatric patients.
Comments: I have one nurses assistant for my afternoon/midnite shift the entire stay and she was the best in the world. When I wasnt feeling my best and was at one of the most humiliating times of need she thought nothing of it to help me and make me feel comfortable and at ease. The nurses we the same.

How Selected: My doctor does his surgeries here, but I did review the hospital at the same time as I was locating Dr. Marshall
Competitors: Bi-county has its own bariatric private rooms. I liked this the most. Privacy and experience.
Comments: With only a 3 day stay it is hard to rate the overall hospital, but I can say when I was there they were good to me.

How Selected: This where my Dr. does surgery.
Competitors: Bi-County is a small hospital, but very good.
Comments: Everyone that took care of me was great. They let my wife stay as long as she wanted, no problems at all. The new WLS wing was very nice. All new equipment, dedicated nurse. I couldn't have asked for better care!

How Selected: My surgeon only does the operation here. But if I had to go back to a hospital and lived closer, I would go back.

How Selected: After having no luck finding a sugeon in Ontario, a friend recommended HFH.
Competitors: This hospital is AMAZING!

How Selected: This is the hospital my surgeon practiced out of.
Competitors: Very clean, very professional, highly recommend.
Comments: Very pleased with my experience at this hospital. I had a private room, (I think all bariactric patients have a private room) and staff is just wonderful. Very clean hospital, great doctors, nurses, (all personnnel). The room temperature was very comfortable also. The bariactic department at Henry Ford Hospital is just excellent! If you're seeking this surgery, I would definitely consider them.

Comments: From the time I arrived, and was prep for surgery, I felt as if I was in very good hands, and would recommend this hospital to anyone considering this surgery.

How Selected: I had to go there because of my Insurance, but I sure am glad that I did.
Comments: Henry Ford has a floor just for bariatric surgery patients. The nurses are there in seconds when you need them. They really care about you. They had wider beds, wide chairs in the rooms and a very roomy shower room. As soon as I was allowed to have my clear liquids they got me a tray. I am very happy that I came to Henry Ford to have my WLS.

How Selected: My employer, and insurance for this type of surgery was through HFH.
Competitors: Better...they had things set up in the room for ease and convenience.
Comments: I was happily surprised at the care and support from the staff. They were just wonderful!

How Selected: I had heard many good things about the HF Bariatric program! Everything I heard was true!
Competitors: HF Hospital blows other area hospitals out of the water - they have it down!
Comments: Bariatric rooms are private - which is nice. The only negative thing is that the toilet is the middle of the room (yes, that means no privacy!) but there is a curtain that you can put in front of you. It was a pain having everyone leave when I had to go to the bathroom!

How Selected: It is where my surgeon practices, and I used to work there and had trust in them
Competitors: The standard of excellence was far above what I could have ever expected. The staff from Residents, nurses, to transporters were all very courteous and kind. I cannot say enough about my experience.
Comments: I now work for a small community hospital/health care system. The large Henry Ford Hospital far exceeded anything that I have seen in my own place. They should be very proud of their achievements. They take care of more indigent patients than other smaller hospital, and provide a more personal caring approach to care. I would highly recommend their bariatric program

Competitors: Pretty much the same. I had a stay at U-M a couple of years ago and I would say they were pretty similar.
Comments: The Bariatric program at Henfry Ford is AWESOME. There is a wing for bariatric patients and it's nice being surrounded by other people experiencing the same things as you. I felt very comfortable with the staff. Some times people don't know how to deal with obese people and it was comforting that the staff was aware of the medical cases they were working on. The only wierd thing I ran into was the anesthesiologist. When he came to tak to me before I was taken into the OR he said, "You are not that big. You couldn't do it the natural way?" I just smiled and said, "I have tried many times." I wonder how often he gets a patient that decides not to have the surgery and try the "natural way". :)

Competitors: First time in a hospital, but I was very pleased.
Comments: I can't say enough about the nurses on my floor. They were wonderful and so nice. Especially Carolyn and Nora. They were great and David the nursing assistant was a great person overall.

How Selected: This is the hospital covered by my insurance, but I have had other surgeries done there and been very satisfied.

Comments: The bariatric program is very impressive, the new bariatric wing is very pleasant for the patient, the rooms are very large and nicely decorated.

Comments: I had a nice prviate room, with my own bathroom. I also had quite a few visitors and my room had several chairs and was spaciuos.

How Selected: I have all of my medical needs taken care of there. This is the only hospital in the area I trust.
Competitors: This is the only hospital in the area I trust. I would not go anywhere else.
Comments: The physicians and staff were the best. They kept me informed constantly of what was going on. I was kept very comfortable and the pain management was tremendous.
