How Selected: It is one of the hospitals my surgeon is associated with and the closest to my house.
Competitors: Not as good. The nurses and staff were non responsive to any help or meds I needed.
Comments: I would have to remind and beg for pain meds. Any time I called for a nurse it would take them 30 minutes or more to come see what I needed.

How Selected: Close to home and of the four that my doctor works at, this is the one that I felt most comfortable in.
Competitors: Baptist Hospital is the BEST of all hospitals. Hialeah is OK. Basically their Bariatric Dept is great. Overall, their just so so.
Comments: The hospital parking is the worst in the galaxy. They need to do something about it. The OR staff was amazing. Wendy was outstanding. The nurses depended on who you got. I had a great day one staff. Perengit (hope I spelled that right) was awesome, her assistant Juana was spectacular. Day two, not so hot. Rosemanon, don't mispronounce her name or she will set you straight. She had the bedside manor of a paper towel. I can work most people to turn them nice but she is just the most miserable person ever. Her assistant, Dulce, was very nice - not as great as Juana. The Charge Nurse came in a few times to introduce herself and make sure everything was ok. Don't be afraid to ask for meds or voice what hurts. That is their job. If they have an attitude then complain to the charge nurse. The surgery isn't free. That is their job - to take care of you. If I had had day ones staff then the overall rating for Hialeah would have been excellent. Hialeah should read this and adjust things accordingly.

How Selected: A friend had her RNY there.
Competitors: Terrible. This is my 8th surgery and this was the worst hospital experience I have ever had.
Comments: I had nurses come to my room that didn't speak English. I was left with an empty IV bag for 8 hours. It took 11 tries to get an IV started on me. I woke up in the operating room as I was being intubated. I have been truly tramatized by the whole experience.

Competitors: Not sure
Comments: The hospital seems old but I was well satisfied with the service

How Selected: I actually selected this hospital because it was the least expensive hospital my surgeon did surgery at, I was a self paid patient and dis some research on the hospital and forund it to be adequate, they have Bariatric Surgery Rooms, and have a nhter surgeon also bringing patients, there I also spoke with a couple of patients who had the sugery at this hospital and they had no complaints.
Competitors: I did not.
Comments: I was very pleased with the way they tooke care of me, the nurses were excellent, they were good about my pain medication. They helped me in and out of bed without a problem. I had an excellent expereince at the hospital and I would recomend the hospital to anyone. Thank you Hialeah Hospital you were great.

How Selected: THis is the only Hospital Dr.Sosa does the surgery in.
Competitors: Well because of my size I feel the hospitals equiptment and oversized chairs and beds where just outstanding.
Comments: They even have specialized things in the operating room to move you very easy. In the rooms the beds are not only big but the can put you in a stand up position, which doent cause any unnecessary pain or discomfort. I feel the cater to big people, and for that I HIGHLY recommend this hospital!

How Selected: Dr. Sosa , he is the head Bariatric surgeon. They have a special wing for Bariatric patients.
Competitors: I have been to Palmetto all my life. But I loved my stay at Hialeah. Astonishing better than Palmetto.
Comments: Every member of the staff was great. I only have to small complaints. No warm water in the bathroom and I felt they needed to clean the bathroom more often. But other than that, I had a pleasant time in recovery there. Thank you to all the members of the Bariatric Team!

How Selected: This is the hospital in which my surgeon, Dr. Sosa, operates on his patients.
Competitors: I would say it's an excellent place. The employees are very competent.
Comments: I had an excellent experience at the hospital, aside from my physical pain, which had nothing to do with them. The employees are very competent and extremely warm and affectionate which I greatly appreciated because surgery is such a delicate and difficult time. My only complaint: more of their employees need to improve their English. They should also ask a patient before beginning talks with them whether they speak English or Spanish. I had a terrible experience in my recovery immediately post-op when I had the tubes down my throat and couldn't understand the nurse's Spanish instructions; of course I couldn't tell her so because I had tubes down my throat and couldn't talk. It was a frantic experience and only served to make me panic, when she should have spoken to me in English.

How Selected: Dr Jorge Sosa is the Chief Bariatric surgeon at Hialeah Hospital. This hospital has a whole section (program) dedicated to Dr Sosa and his Bariatric patients.
Competitors: I don't know how other hospitals manage this type of procedure. I do know that I am forever grateful with the service and dedication that the Hialeah Hospital staff showed me while I stayed with them.
Comments: In general I highly recommend this hospital for bariatric patients. They were always eager to answer questions and sencerely cared about my needs. My family openly expressed that everyone there treated them kindly and assisted in making them feel at home. Even the chairs were over-sized to make it more comfortable for those people who can't fit in smaller (normal) chairs.

Competitors: I think this hospital was superior, in that there was never a problem they couldn't fix.
Comments: I thought that the time I spent in the hospital was not too bad. Everyone from the admitting nurse in the or. to the nurses aides were very helpful. They took very good care of me, and when I pressed the little button, they came pretty fast.
