I would prefer this one to any other one in the area. |
| Comments: |
1) I had the singular misfortune to be in a room opposite a poor soul, that was screaming day and night from pain, so that I had a hard time sleeping. This could probably have been avoided, since there were quite a few empty rooms on my floor, but I was too weak to complain.
2) Nurses are always polite, quick to respond and ready to help out.
3) Pain meds - ahhh. I found that some nurses (usually dayshift) would wait for me to ask for my meds, but I would ususally wait too long, and couldn't estimate time because I had no clock in my room. I suppose this had to do with workload rather than pain management philosophy. The night shift, though, came in at pre-set intervals - usually before I was in acute pain and simply asked me whether I was ready for my meds or not - which was great.
All in all, I would go back to Highsmith-Rainey any day of the week.
I had to go back to the hospital due to complication. Nursing staff was outstanding in every respect, and the best part of the whole hospital experience. One went so far as to offer to take me half-way home, so that my husband wouldn't have to drive the whole 75 miles..
Many, many thanks to the wonderful staff. |

The ICU was great. Everyone was very helpful, but once in a regular room, it was just the opposite. Hard to get someone to come help you. Diana and Mary were my 2 nurses and they were very nice and helpful, but too busy to come when you call. |

I thought that I was upgrading by going to a civilian hospital rather than Womack, but I will say this...Womack treated me a whole heck of a lot better than HS-Rainey. |

I would just like to say that I don't remember my stay in ICU. I do remember my stay on the regular floor. The night shift was horrible very short staffed and the RN was male and all he did was give you meds and leave you alone. My IV machine beeped all the time and it took forever for someone to come and fix it. The lady staying accross the hall had her little kids and husband there all night and I told the RN and they did nothing. Also all she did was yell profanity and yell, yell, yell all night. During the day shift Frances was great, but her aid was Lyndie and she was horrible. I got my period and was on blood thinner so it was all over so I buzzed her hoping she would help me. She came in and slamed a pad down next to me where I could not reach and walked out the door and slammed that too. She was very mean and horrible she has no bedside manner what so ever. Something really needs to be done about some of this staff. If you don't like your job get a new one! |

The ICU Nurses was WONDERFUL. When I went to the regualr floor the 1st shift was wonderful especailly ANETTE. AS FORT HE 2ND SECOND SHIFT THAT WAS A DIFFERENT STORY. I ASKED FOR PAIN MEDICINE 2 HOURS LATER STILL HAVENT GOT IT HAD TO CALL AGAIN TO GET IT FINALLY THE NURSE GAVE IT TO ME. SLEEP WHAT IS THAT HOW CAN YOU GET SLEP WHEN THE NURSES ARE LOUD. AND IV MACHINES GOING OFF EVERY WHERE INCLUDING MINE WHICH I HAD TO CALL SEVERAL TIMES FOR. I THINK THEY NEED BETTER NURESES FOR 2ND SHIFT OTHER THAN THAT ALL WENT WELL |

Well let me first say It was not all bad. If you end up there you want to look out for Nurse Joeann in the ICU, And Nurse Kim <Nights> and Nurse Ed <Days> form the Main floor. <3rd> They are the Best! The rest of them really need so bed side manners corsese.... the worse ones where Nurse Theresa ICU and Nurse Nicole <Nights> from the main floor. The food was well good from what my hubby told me in the caffertria and not bad in the room WHEN I GOT IT!!! As for ICU I had to stay there a day longer then needed which was not to bad they let my Hubby stay in the waiting room even gave him sheets and blankets for the pull out couch, care for me there was real good. Now as for the main floor. I never had my lines changed never was washed once and was there for 4 more days.... I had no problem in either getting my Pain med. The more Morphine they give the paticents then the more they sleep! I have to say on a scale from 1 to 10 10 being best They got a 4.5.... but don't freat if you complain they will give you a $10.00 gift ceriticate! |

| My surgeon prefers this hospital but does uses another hospital as well. I was originally scheduled at the other hospital my choice but due to scheduling conflicts I needed to change my date and this was the other option. |

As all other hospitals they seem to be grossly understaffed in the nursing department. Had to call numerous times to get IV machine fixed when it was beeping. The aid basically threw the thermometer sheth across the room at the trash can and didn't bother to pick it up when she missed. One nurse got tangled in my IV and nearly jerked it out. Had to beg at one point to get my temprature taken when I felt like I was running a fever. They never came to get me up to walk my hubby had to do that. I had to tell them everytime my urine collection container was full. On several shifts the only time I saw a nurse was for meds and vitals. Not even having an assesment by new nurses coming on duty. Not that I think anyother hospital would have been a whole lot better but this is how my stay was. |

They let someone visit me in the ICU that I didn't know from my husbands work and she brought me candy. She was wondering what kind of surgery I had etc. It was my second day out of surgery and I didn't care to speak with that person at the time. Also I was put in small wheelchairs. I got a full size one when they wheeled me out of the hospital during discharge. |

Also High Smith is a smaller Hospital and found it to me more personable. i had a great Head Nurse in the Am her name was Ama. and the nursing assistant Lyndie was the BOMB!!!!! |

Well, it's certainly better than the one we have here in my home town. Much better staffed and more modernly equipped. I live about 5 hours from this hospital (in an extremely small town) and they were very much will to work on this with my visitors and discharge. |

Previous patient at WAMC FT bragg and received excellent care . There was no comparison |
| Comments: |
First I would like to say I have had numerous surgeries in the past without any complaints in other hospitals. The nursing care at HSMH was horrible. My first night post op I had a vent directly overhead that leaked cold water on me all night. I told the nurse and she never did a thing about it. I was soaked by the next day.
The following day, my guest had to push the bed over from under the vent. I went for a barium swallow and was left unattended in a hallway for over 1 hour in a wheelchair. The radiologist was rough and messed up my IV. It took over 2hours 45mn to get someone to start a new IV. Therefore I had no pain medicine from the PCA. I complained of having difficulty breathing and needed my inhalers. They were not brought to me till 1 1/2 days later and had saturations of 82%. I was put on oxygen for a while and it was discontinued. The RT said she would return to check my saturations in 10 mns. Four hours later another RT returned. My sats were 87%. I was having difficulty breathing and had a severe headache from the low saturations. If I had been assessed properly, they would have noticed that the Dilaudid from the PCA was causing me to have breathing problems. Once the dilaudid was D/c my breathing returned to normal. But nobody cared enough .
I never received clean linens, towels or gowns. If I needed something I had to go get it myself. On several occasions I witnessed nurses in empty rooms watching tv. It took over 45 mn of calling staff to get medicine for nausea. She became upset because I called during change of shift and said "Someday I'll be able to get my report". She was the same nurse that made negative comments about my surgeon and the surgery.
My IV pumps beeped constantly. I paged the nurse to notify her. A nursing assistant came and could operate the machine. I waited another 35 mns and no one came to turn them off. I finally silenced them my self. I got no assistance with getting in and out of bed. My husband did my dressing changes because the nurse never changed them or did assessments on me. In three days only one nurse assessed me. The nursing assistants did do frequent vital signs but my urine hats were never emptied. I had to keep tract of my output. I was told by a male nurse that I had to order my own meals. I called the dining facility and was told not to order my meals because I was on a pureed diet. I was so frustrated I just cried. I did speak to the assistant manager and surgeon about my complaints. The following week I spoke to another patient who had the same problems. Obviously my complaining did not help. |
