How Selected: It is the hospital that my surgeon used.
Competitors: Nothing to compare with
Comments: I wasn't given a buzzer to call the nurse. When I awoke and needed a nurse, I had to call my father (the phone was there, but the buzzer was not) and ask him to call the hospital and ask for someone to come into my room! There were several times I rang for the nurse and no one came. At one point, after waiting 15 minutes, I got out of bed, walked to the nurses station where 3 nurses were chatting. I said "do you hear that sound? that's me ringing for a nurse"! Shameful!

Comments: Very poor nursing. All but one nurse was frazzled and it always took about 30-40 minutes for someone to answer my call bell. One nurse even told me he couldn't give me pain meds b/c he had paperwork to do.

Competitors: Holy Cross may be an older hospital, but they are far superior in both the care physically and spiritually than the Boca hospitals I have been in. I would travel the extra distance for the compassion and respect I was shown at H.C.

Competitors: I would say this hospital is average compared to other hospitals I have been in.
Comments: I wasn't happy with many of the nursing staff. Very difficult to get pain meds when needed. Many times had to wait over and hour past my time for medication. This would have been much better had I had a pain pump that I push as needed. The nurses couldn't be bothered helping my daughter or myself clean up. Just threw the towels and gowns on the bed and left us to fen for ourselves. Not much rest in any hospital due to someone always wanting to take blood pressure, blood or temps.

Comments: I was not too happy with my experience. Most of the nurses were not that good. My room was horrible and in the first room the a/c did not work well and they did nothing to accomodate me. I would not chose to go there if I had the choice.

Competitors: I can only compare Holy Cross to Bethesda Hospital in Boynton, and Holy Cross supersedes in all aspects, especially the care the staff provides to you! Even though it is far from my home, I much rather drive for 45 min. and go to Holy Cross than to go the Bethesda (they are awful).

How Selected: Dr Marema practices here. Also, since so many bariatric procedures are done here, I knew I'd be in competent hands. I couldn't be happier with my decision.
Competitors: Exceeded my expectatation. I have worked for several hospitals and would place Holy Cross at the top. The rooms were maintained, the staff, from the greeters in the lobby to the discharge procedure were well trained, professional, and caring.
Comments: I arrived for my procedure in the early hour of 5:30. The main entrance was lit up with the most gorgeous stained glass I've ever witnessed. I had Sister Margaret pray with me, the crucifx at my beside, I received communion and was annointed with the rite of the sick by Father Bob. My nurses, Michelle in OP, Linda, Dianne, Sandra, Doreen and Desi treated me with dignity and kindness. I couldn't have asked for better care. Dr. Marema did a phenomenal job too. Thank you too all who made my breif stay at Holy Cross a complete success

Comments: My overall experience was great except for one nurse that didn't believe me when I told her my morphan drip wasn't working, it took her two hours to fix it, and that was directly after surgery.

Comments: SUGERY OF ANY SORT IS A VERY SCAREY PROSPECT, AND THE PEOPLE AT HOLY CROSS ALLOWED ME THE SPACE TO ASK QUESTIONS AND HAVE THEM ANSWERED....I WAS NEVER ONCE SHUFFLED AROUND. THE NURSES WERE ALL VERY KING AND COMPASSIONATE, ESPECIALLY A LOVELY WOMAN NAMED CAROLINE, WHO WAS MY NURSE OUT OF RECOVERY...SHE TOOK EXTREEM CARE WITH A SMILE AND A SOFT VOICE...BLESS YOU HOLY CROSS

How Selected: I selected this hospital because it was the one that my doctor operated out of.
Competitors: I feel this hospital is about equal to all other hospitals I have gone to visit. It is the first time I've been hospitalized and I thought it was ok under the circumstances.
Comments: My only complaint about the hospital is that I was 4 hours away from home and with my mom, whom was someone I wanted with me even at night. But the nurse, her name was Pat, told me that they don't allow people to stay over, which I thought was really stupid and she said that if my mom stayed with me security would throw her out. She actually made my mom sleep in the waiting room and that just made me very mad. My mom wouldn't go to a hotel because she wanted to be with me but I just felt it was unfair not to let my mom stay with me.

Comments: My only real complaint about the hospital is the lack of consistent pain meds. I was in a lot of pain and they didn't even give pain meds out until 10:30 in the morning, when I was wakened at 6 in the morning! The hospital itself was fine, however. Quick nurse response (you call the nurse on a phone he/she carries with him/her), timely meals, etc.

Comments: This hospital is old but very clean. I was only disappointed in one thing and that was the visiting hours. 11:00 a.m. is the earliest a visitor can come in and since they discourage your significant other from staying overnight, the evening to morning hours can be lonely.

How Selected: It was US Baratrics Hospital
Competitors: It is as poorly run as any I know. I am a minister and have been in hundreds.
Comments: They left me in ICU because they had no bed in regular wing. They built me a big boy bed after three days, hung it in a door with me in a chair for hours with a torn rotator cuff with NO PAIN meds. I had to use hurt arm to lift myself up as my bed was out of order. Head would not lift. I asked for a shoulder doctor and so did my surgeon. I got one 8 days later.

Competitors: they have " bugs" they are working out, infact I was interviewed by a few corp employees that where very intent on making improvements where needed. That was encourgaing.
Comments: I felt they needed improvement on indivdual details of each patient's needs/ check list of "must haves". I was not given the propper dosage of paid meds requested by Dr., I did not have the overhead handle on my bed to move safely till the last day ( causing great pain ) and one very ignorant/insensitive nurse caused two situations where I was physically harmed by her lack of quality care ( this person was repremanded by hospital). I know that I may have had to go through this for improvements to occure. I hope that was the case. My stay/ recovery would have been less traumatic.
