The only thing that was difficult was language constraints. I'm fluent in Spanish, but not Brazilian Portugese. Fortunately, they understood my Spanish, but I was lost when they spoke.
BUT the nurses were very sweet, my doctors were fluent in English, the hospital was immaculate, and the care was outstanding. |

| This was the hospital Dr. Marchesini was using because of the flat rate they agreed to for his North American patients. It is a private hospital, and is excellent; better care than I have ever received in the states. |

I can only compare Hosptial Santa Cruz with American hospitals and it is by far the most superior hospital I have ever been in. The cleanliness was spectacular! |

This hospital is rated in the top 3 in the world for lowest rate of secondary infections. This was very impressive to me. Also, the fact that few nurses could speak English and I didn't speak Portuguese didn't effect my stay at all. The nurses were very kind hearted and made every effort to make sure both my husband and I were comfortable. |

| This is the hospital that Dr. Marchesini performes all of his surgeries in. It is a block from his home and 2 blocks from his office and the hotel we stayed in. VERY convienent. |

Comparing this hospital to the US hospitals is like comparing a fully equipped Limo to an old Chevy..No comparison! The US hospitals leave MUCH to be desired! They could learn a lot from a trip to this hospital! |

| Dr. Marchesini works at this hospital. It has its good and bad like anything else. Drawbacks are the language. But people work hard to understand you. The population is very professional. |

The care is exceptional. Nurses in white were on their hands and knees washing my back in the shower, washing under fat pads, my breasts, and carefully drying my body. Show me a hospital in the U.S. where that would happen! |

This hospital is an excellent facility compaired to any in the US. The rooms and everything else in the hospital was immaculate and very nicely arranged. Rooms were large and airy. No problems at all with any aspect of it. |

The patient rooms were large and all had large balconies; the cafeteria food was excellent (except post-op broth); the ratio of nurses to patients was higher than any hospital I've ever seen in the U.S.. That being said, I must say that the operating room equipment appeared to be outdated, but I had no problem with my surgery, so I guess high-tech equipment isn't necessary for a successful DS procedure. |

The hospital was very very clean. The first day I went in there for testing, I was shocked to see all the people with cleaning supplies in their hands. Even scrubbing down the inside of the elevators. |

The hospital is marble and tile - beautiful!! Very clean, friendly, very relaxed atmosphere, the staff are learning english very quickly and are very attentive. There is no nursing shortage here. |

Comparred to US hospitals- Outstanding. |

The nusring staff is extremely kind and dedicated. I only ran into 1 nurse that wasn't the nicest I've know. They never let a call light go longer that 1 minute and try to accomadate you in everyway possible.
As far as I know, the American patients are placed on the maternity floor, so it is somewhat comforting (for me) being that most of the patients are female and a bit bigger--due to the fact that in Brasil, hardly anyone is overweight!
I was visited twice a day by my doctor, a physical therapist, and had my private nurse on call. He slept in the room with me everynight.
The anethegiologists could have been a bit more accomadating. I found that they were the hardest to get a hold of. Also, there is somewhat of a language barrier. Most of the nurses don't speak English, but they try their hardest to understand and Dr. M gives out a cheat cheat of common English/Portuguese phrases you will need to know while in the hospital.
But overall, the hospital is very high class. My room was huge and luxurious- all for my self, and it led into another day room where visitors could visit and step out on the balcony.
