How Selected: I didn't personally select this hospital. It was the only one covered under my insurance. But I am glad I went there.
Competitors: My comparison of this hospital with the others I have gone to best put like this. I LOVE THIS HOSPITAL.
Comments: I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED AS THOUGH I WAS THE ONLY PATIENT IN THE ENTIRE HOSPITAL AT ANY OF THE OTHER HOSPITALS THAT I HAVE GONE TO HERE IN SOUTH FLORIDA!!!!!! THE STAFF WERE SO PROFESSIONAL BUT YET SO WARM. I will be taking some of their ways back to work with me when I return.

How Selected: Humana HMO chose it for me. Dr. Marema recently signed on with Humana, but could perform those patients only at Imperial Point. Holy Cross, his usual hospital, is far better equipped for the bariatric patient. Also, having the surgery at Imperial Point did not give me the option of laporascopic surgery. Open was not a preferred choice, being Diabetic. The hospital is actually a "nicer" hospital than Holy Cross and the nurses are very good, however, they are not totally trained in Bariatric caring. Given time, I am sure that this will improve.
Competitors: As I said above, Holy Cross is the usual hospital that Dr. Marema performs his surgeries and there is a floor dedicated to the bariatric patient with ample beds and hospital gowns, etc. They are knowledgeable about the needs of the bariatric patient. I am glad that Dr. Marema has an exemplary education program, so that I was able to inform the hospital of my needs, particularly about the walking 4 hours after surgery and the type of food consumption that Dr. Marema has his patients adhere to. Imperial Point just needs to "get up to speed" and they would be considered even better than Holy Cross.
Comments: I thought Imperial Point was a wonderful hospital. Very clean and not as large as some other hospitals. Nurses are caring and my family was able to visit with me in the holding area until my surgery almost five hours after I arrived at the hospital. I would give it a good rating until they train further for the bariatric patient and then it would probably be in the excellent range.

How Selected: Insurance had contract with this hospital
Competitors: I have no experience to compare with.
Comments: Everyone was very knowledgable and very nice. They made you feel very safe. THe only snag I hit was after surgery on my clear liquid days, they gave me orange juice, apple juice and ginger ale and I told them I couldnt have them. The director of food services did come visit me and apologize and advise that they were working with their people on Gastric Bypass food requirements/restrictions.

How Selected: It was the only hospital that Dr. Marema operated out of that was on my medical plan.
Competitors: I am not familiar with any other local hospitals.
Comments: From stepping in the door the day of surgery, up until now as I write this from my room a week later, I couldn't ask for better care. This hospital has it together. The facility is beautiful. Everything has been recently remodeled. Private rooms are reasonable $50.00/day. The nursing staff graciously accommodated my guest by letting him sleep on the pull out couch in my room and offered to have meals brought up for the small guest meal fee. Push the button, they are there. Take a walk they are there supporting you. Smiling, wishing you well. These people are incredible. You have direct access to a Nurse Manager at all times. She introduced herself to me the day after surgery (I came up too late from surgery for her to see me the day I had it). I feel VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE HAD MY SURGERY AT IMPERIAL POINT MEDICAL CENTER
