Obesity is one of the fastest-growing epidemics in the United States. Nearly 30 percent of America is overweight and nearly 4 percent is morbidly obese. This epidemic has received a great deal of media attention in recent years, leading to the creation of countless programs promoting healthy choices and healthy lifestyles.
For some people, however, diet and exercise are not enough. Obesity is not simply the result of “eating too much.” This life-threatening medical condition is influenced by genetics, and social, cultural, and psychosocial factors. Without help, overweight patients can become morbidly obese (defined as having a body mass index (BMI) greater than 35 kg/m2), and may experience one or more dangerous complications:
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Kidney failure
- Severe arthritis
- Infertility
- Colon cancer
- Breast cancer
Morbidly obese patients have a lower life expectancy. The only proven intervention is surgery. Surgery results in sustained weight-loss, improvement in secondary medical conditions, and improved quality of life.
Treatment
All morbidly obese individuals should seek medical or surgical intervention. Patient are eligible for surgery if:
- Their BMI is 40 or greater
- Their BMI is 35 or greater OR they suffer obesity-related secondary conditions

Even though the hospital was small the staff was almost 2 on 1 every time you called for them. They were very responsive and concerned for your well being. They knew what they were doing and did it professionally. I was very impressed with all of the OR and recovery staff including their RT’s on staff. |

A hospital is only as great as its staff and let me tell you the staff at innova san antonio is THE BEST. In my three day stay I was givin the best care and I had fun. The entire stay at the hospital is handled with care and professionalism by all members of that staff. There are to many people to list but there are 2 that I want to tip my hat to. The 2 repiratory specialists thanks Bruce and Frank for being the professional but firm task masters in getting me to walk and breath using my breathing tool ( spirometer ). To get me to recover that much quicker so that I could come home as soon as I did. If you want to go to the best Hospital in San antonio this is the place. |

| My surgeon uses several hospitals but they submitted my insurance for approval at Innova and so I went there, even though there is a Center of Excellence 2 miles away and Innova is 20 miles away through harrowing traffic. |

I would have rather been a little closer to home, but I thought the staff, ESPECIALLY the respiratory therapists who took time to walk with me a lot, were excellent. I am happy with my choice. |

I don't know of any other hospitals in the San Antionio area. But, I know of the hosptials in Austin and Innova Hospital was wonderful. I like it the private care, the wonderful staff. |

I would recommend Innova Hospital to any patient that is wanting to have the gastric bypass surgery. There were only four surgery rooms and four patient rooms. The staff ratio was outstanding and you really feel as though you have your own private nurse and staff caring for you. The hosptial was clean, up to date, and relaxing to stay there. |

I know that this hosptial was 1:1 care. The small setting with only 4 rooms with plenty of staff. I have never been to a hospital that I felt so cared for and really trusted everyone!!! |

I would recommend this hopsital to anyone that is wanting to have the WLS and live somewhere in the area. I drove 2 hours to have my surgery at this hopsital. They specailized with WLS compared to a regular hopstial. I give them a 10!!!! Staff was WONDERFUL!!! |

Innova Hospital is a new facility here in San Antonio and I found the hospital to be extremely clean. The rooms were comfortable, they were equipped with flat screened TV's, and there is wireless laptop computer access. The staff was very attentive to my needs. When I had questions, at all hours of the day and night, they were knowledgeable and friendly. EVERYONE, respiratory therapists, nurses, Dr. Gonzalez, the clerical clerks in the office, my nutritionist...all of them have been GREAT! |

| I did some research on line and found this hospital. I called for an appointment and was very surprised when the doctor himself called me back and spent over 30 mins on the phone with me talking about the surgery and other things in general. I was very impressed with how concerned Dr. Patel was with my personal story even though he had never met me. |

my experience with San Antonio Innova does not compare to any of the many hospital visits I have had in the past. All of the hospitals staff (nurses, RT's and Scrub techs were there for my every need. They were offering me things before I could even ask for them. The patient to nurse ratio was at the least 1-3. I would strongly reccomend this facility. It was so clean and spacious, the bed was even comfortable. |

Really can't say cause this is all they do and other hospitals are more full service. I do know that my friend is having to go to SE Baptist for her surgery because of insurance reasons and she is not happy about it (liked how Innova handled everything with me.) |

| I was interested after a commercial, and convinced after visiting with the people who worked there. They really do care about you. |

Outstanding physician, nurses, rt's and staff. Caring and dedicated to the patient. If I needed help they were there for me in seconds not minutes or hours like other hospitals. The nursing staff was NOT limited to one patient as all other hospitals are. |

This was my first surgery and I had never been more comfortable, and felt more secure about my stay. Dr. Patel, the Rn's, Lvn's, and Rt's were always there for me-and with a smile. I have been to other hospitals with family members and have never experienced such elite care and compassion. Even after I was discharged I felt confident and comfortable calling with questions. Every conversation has ended with "thank you for calling and please call back with any concerns or questions". This has been the most incredibly wonderful hospital stay. I would highly recommend this hospital. |

The nurse/patient ratio is unheard of anywhere else. It's only 4 beds. The first 3 days there were 3 others besides me. On days 4 and 5 of my stay I was the only patient there and had 2 nurses and an RT there just for me all the time. The respiratory staff was awesome- especially Walter and Bruce. |

This hospital is the BEST! It is a small private hospital that specializes in Bariatric surgeries and I felt that I received top notch special attention throughout my visit it was like I had a whole private nursing staff to myself they were a 10+ |

The hospital is clean and comfortable. It is all one level parking is easy and my husband commented how nice it was that they allowed him to come and go as he pleased with out giving him any trouble. I would recommend Innova and the staff to any one, I wish that I had the comfort of knowing that if I ever needed to be in the hospital again I could go there regular hospitals can not hold a candle to their specialized care! |

| I was referred by a friend and I felt so comfortable with my physician I made my decision that same day. I havent had my surgery yet, but the staff is so friendly, accesible and knowledgable, I ust knew I had found the right place.
I did a lot of research and this is the only place I felt comfortable and at ease. I am ready for surgery 03/27/06 and am confident I will receive the best care. |

I have never had an experience like this. This hospital is truly top notch! I feel like I'm in a 5 star hotel. The staff here are awesome and seem to truly care. I could not have asked for a better hospital! Absolutely incredible!!! |

Compared to other Hospital's I have been to, I feel that Innova Hospital was way better and more accomodating to the patients. |

Innova Hospital has a Great Staff... The Nursing Staff, the Respiratory Therapist's, the admitting staff and all the Dr.'s that looked after me, were very very nice to me and they made me feel comfortable, safe and I knew I was in good hands. They were very gentle and careful to not hurt me or cause me pain when moving me or getting me up to walk. |
