How Selected: The hospital was affiliated with the surgeon I chose and the weight loss management program he is involved with.
Competitors: Jewish Hospital was first class all the way. By far a superior experience to some of the other hospitals I have stayed. The nurse were very knowledgeable and able to answer any questions I had. I never once heard any staff complaining about other staff, schedules, boss...etc. Very Professional.
Comments: The staff was so friendly! Everyone from the nurses to the PCAs to the guys that brought my meal trays always greeted me by name and introduced themselves. When I couldn't get hold of my hubby, the PCA on duty handed me her cell phone and told me to try that. ( I couldn't call long distance from my room phone and didn't think to get a phone card) The staff really seemed to care not just about my health but about my entire well being. My room was sparkling clean, my care was great. The staff would just occasionally come to my room and ask if I needed anything on top of being in and out for dealing with my catheter, drain, and bathroom runs. Truly and outstanding Facility

How Selected: My PCP recommended a specific doctor. This doctor happened to be the associate of the doctor who removed my gallbladder. My surgeon only did WLS through this hospital and I really wanted him as a surgeon so I was kind of stuck with the hospital.
Competitors: The hospital itself was wonderful. All the people at the hospital were awesome and so caring (Even sent me a get well card). However, the weight management center was less than desirable. They have a great support group system, but their nutrionist are very unhelpful and do not teach you the tools you need to be successful in your weight loss.

How Selected: Through my doctor's office. It was actually about $2,000.00 cheaper to have my surgery done here than the other hospital he operates at.
Competitors: I have only stayed in one hospital before this surgery but out of the two of them I was so impressed with Jewish hospital. They were so polite and courteous, the entire staff. It was a wonderful experience.
Comments: I would recommend this hospital to anyone wishing to have this surgery done. They treat you with respect and dignity and they are absolutely wonderful. Definetly a two thumbs up!!!!!!!!!

How Selected: Based on reputation in the community. With my insurance, I could have chosen 3 other hospitals but I chose this one.
Competitors: Me and my family were treated very well. Most of the staff appeared to truly care about us. For example, the recovery room RN took me to my room then checked on me after she gave report to my new nurse. She checked on me again when she brought another patient to this unit. That was just one example of several good things. There seemed to be good communication going on between people too. I know in health care, communication can be a weak spot with everyone having their own piece of YOUR pie to be responsible for.
Comments: I would definately recommend this hospital for anyone considering WLS...or otherwise!

Competitors: My experience here was a nightmare at times/ okay the next.
Comments: I went for two days without or with little pain medicine. My CPA pump was not working, my call button was not working, the BP machine did not work on two occasions, the thermometer machine did not work once. I was sent home with a prescription for an antidepressant I do not use.
