Comments: I was only there for 2 days and I was out of it for 1 & 1/2 of it. I didn't want to stay any longer. The day shift was less attentive and slower at responding to my restroom needs during the last half of my stay. The night shift nurse that I had was great! though.

Comments: over all my stay was o.k. but the nurses and other staff (cleaning etc.) were always noisey wether it was daytime or the middle of the night. I was also madde to go home the very next day even after protesting that I was in pain and not feeling ready to go home and make the 2 hour drive.

Competitors: From what I have seen so far, they seem very organized and efficient. I think the process of having patients lose 10% before surgery is very beneficial (frustrating, yes, but beneficial).

How Selected: This is where I was assigned for surgery through Kaiser
Competitors: I thought this was a very well equipped hospital, my srugery was cancelled and rescheduled for the next afternoon because of severe problem with me having low potassium, they did everythign in their power to rectify the situation as well as help me and my family relax while this was happeing. My husband was also allowed to spend the night at the hospital with me as the rooms were both private that I was in. Can;t say enough good things about it
Comments: see above, only had a problem with 1 nurse assistant, a young girl who was more interested in flirting with the orderlies than in helping me , other than that it was good, I was in their for 4 days.

Competitors: I would say it is the best that I have stayed at.
Comments: Because i was in the very first group of lap band patients there was a little uncertainty from staff on how to treat me as opposed to the RNY patients and that made me nervous at times because they showed lack of knowledge. Overall though they did thier best and made me feel as comfortable as possible and I would rate them as good.

Comments: The first night, I really didn't know it becuase I was so druged up, but my mom, God Bless Her, had to sleep in a very uncomfortable chair and the nurses were SO loud talking and such. The second night, they were not loud at all, and they let mom bring in a blow up matress, I thought that was cool.

How Selected: It was selected for me by my insurance plan.
Competitors: It does not seem to be as good as my local hospital, Sutter Health in Roseville, CA based on comments I have heard from members of my support group.
Comments: The private room was wonderful. The nursing staff was kind and helpful, but they seemed understaffed. They were always hurried and had a hard time getting to all their patients. Fortunately, I was very healthy, had no complications and had friends and family with me, so I was able to get my needs met on my own.

How Selected: The KP board who approved my surgey assigned it to me, with the names of the surgeons.
Competitors: Kaiser Permanente hospitals are great.
Comments: The Bariatric staff is wonderful. The Fremont Hospital is beautiful and everyone I met was excellent, however, there is always one bad apple in the bunch. Not sure her name, she was not assigned to me to follow my care, but she did come in and was the most rudest person in the world. I was so tired and trying to sleep and she told me to deep breathe so the machine would not beep, told her I needed my cpap and with it I am sorry but I sleep deep, she was rude and uncaring and told me deal with out it. I started crying and had a panic attack, I could not breathe and it took 10 minutes for me to catch my breathe, she didn't even try to help me.....scary..my regular nurse came in and calmed me down, and put the silent alarmed on, that is how it ended. Made sure I informed my doctor in the morning.

How Selected: I was originally assigned to Kaiser in South San Francisco, and am very happy to have been re-routed to Fremont.
Competitors: Having grown up in the area, the adjacent hospital is awful. Not only was I very impressed with the differences, but my parents were as well.
Comments: I really can't say enough about Kaiser Fremont. The hospital was very clean and comfortable (it's not often that the hallways are carpeted!) The staff was wonderful, although I did have one nurse who I wasn't extremely comfortable with, maybe due to different gender. Rather than coming in at different times to take blood pressure, blood tests, temperatures, medications, etc., they really made sure you were able to get what you needed with your rest being the most important. I was very happy with everything about this hospital. Please feel free to contact me via e-mail with any other questions!

How Selected: It was one of 3 facilities offered and I chose it based on preop requirements.
Competitors: It's no better and no worse, it's about the same as the only other time I have been in a hospital.
Comments: There are good and bad everywhere, not speaking of the OR staff-the nurses were both on one extreme excellent and the other extreme horrible, it just depended on the nurse for that day!
