How Selected: My surgeon Dr. Anderson works through this hospital, and my mother works in the OR there as well.
Competitors: This is the only local hospital I have been to.
Comments: It was a great hosptial, but the overnight staff was absolutely horrible. I had to learn to unhook my equipment myself to be able to get up and get to the bathroom in time because no one on the night shift ever came to help me. When I DID get them in there, my call button was left across the room from me, my pillows were on the couch, and every time I hit the call button for some help, I felt like I had to apologize to the night shift nurse for disturbing her. It took them on average about 30 min to answer the call button, then another 30 min to even get back to my room. (hence why I just learned to go by myself) At one point my IV had infiltrated and I tried to call someone back to my room 3 or 4 times, because my hand had swelled 5x its normal size and it was very painful. Again, it took them at least 30 minutes to respond. The night nurse came in, looked at it, said "Well, I can't fix this, I have to get a specialist." and left the room after removing it. Someone else came in, complained about how the IV had been done, fixed it, and left. I have no idea how long this took because I was in and out of it so much. I was very happy with the daytime staff, though. I would still recommend this hospital to anyone, just be warned and be prepared to do some complaining at night. Also they need more nursing assistants. Half the things I needed could have been done by them.

How Selected: had been there for previous surgeries; the hospital used by my surgeon
Competitors: better than most
Comments: my only complaint was that, my last night there, I was hooked up to the leg PCA sleeves (which I could not reach to get off myself because of my huge incision), and they had given me an injection of Lasix. When I called for help getting out of bed to get to the bathroom, the night staff had not responded in 10 minutes and I could not wait. WITH MUCH PAIN, I was able to rip off one of the sleeves so I could use that foot to push the other one off so I could get up without waiting on them. Only AFTER I had been to the bathroom and back, and was sitting in the chair (not wanting to move any more, and unable to reach the call button, b/c I was then hurting so badly) that anyone came to assist me. 20 MINUTES after I told then I needed help getting up! You don't give a patient a diuretic, have them trapped in bed with PCA sleeves, and then NOT respond when they need to use the bathroom! Other than this, my experience was very good.
