How Selected: I work at this hospital and feel very comfortable with my surgeon and staff. I was very pleased with the throughness of their bariatrics program.
Competitors: I know of several other small hospitals in the area that are not nearly as professional and do not have the reputation of Lake Pointe.
Comments: I received excellent nursing care post-op.

How Selected: Lakepoint is the hospital my surgeon uses.
Competitors: This hospital is wonderful. The gowns are "BIG". There is planty of room for us big girls and guys. They have equipment made to us (beds, chairs, wheelchairs, etc). They have one area of the hospital that is nothing but WLS patients and the nurses in this unit KNOW how to work with us to help us. When you go to the emergency room you don't have the normal wait you do at most hospitals I've been to.
Comments: My overall rating of Lakepoint Medical is excellent. The facility is equipped to accommodate obesity patients. The staff are wonderful. They are trained to work with us and our out of the ordinary problems.

How Selected: It is where my surgeon of choice operates from.
Competitors: I like it because it is small and in my community.
Comments: My surgery date was July 29, 2002. Since then it has been going through expansion/construction - parking is currently more challenging.

Multi Security: Very Poor Privacy: Very Poor Pain Medication: Very Poor
Quiet: Very Poor Visiting: Average Staff Responsive: Very Poor
Parking: Good
How Selected: This is where the physician I chose operates out of. (This physician was the only one in the entire DFW metroplex that would accept Cigna HMO.)
Competitors: The absolute worst. I have had a c-sectin, hysterectomy, and several other serious surgeries - and the treatment I received here was completely sub-standard.
Comments: 1. I was taken straight from surgery to my room - no recovery room involved. 2. I was never helped to bathe, never offered any help. 3. Once the catheter was removed and my "output" was supposed to be measured, it was never emptied or recorded - NOT ONCE. I had to ring for a nurse and ask about it every single time. 4. The day after my surgery my morphine ran out and student nurses were sent in. These nurses of course did not have access to the morphine. Over two and 1/2 hours passed before I finally got more morphine. In horrible pain, the nurses took that opportunity to slowly explain to the student nurses how to replace the morphine (instead of immediately administering some and providing some relief). 5. The surgery floor is the same as the pediatrics floor. Nothing against kids, but it's hard listening to the crying, or the running up and down the halls. 6. For the first time after any surgery - even outpatient - I was discharged without being taken in a wheelchair. I survived, of course, but I thought this was a law of some sort. 7. The hospital is currently undergoing major construction. It was quite noisy. 8. Every room seemed to be connected to the same monitoring equipment - when the staff was looking for the location of a nurse, for example, this was broadcast over the patient's bedside call button. That meant that at least every 5 minutes, someone was beeping and blasting over the speaker right next to the patient's head.

How Selected: The doctor I chose is on staff. Also, used to live close to hospital and had been a previous patient.
Competitors: Much smaller where you don't feel like you are just a number. Most staff takes time to get to know you and your needs.
Comments: Can't wait till they are done with the expansion. Just hope they keep the small town atomsphere.
