Comments: Great doctors and they took great care of me---BUT I would never go back. I spent 13 hours in recovery because they did not have a bed available in SICU where I was to go next. They knew I ws having surgery--how come no bed? Its because the hospital itself is disorganized. The night staff in Recovery had NO consideration that sick people needed rest. They screamed, yelled, spoke to each other from clear across the unit, laughed and were LOUD with no regard for the needs of patients for peace and rest. I was there until 11 pm when I should have been out of there by noon. Then in SICU, night staff again were LOUD...banging doors, drawers, shouting from across the unit. Just unbelievable! I should have been moved to a regular unit in the morning but NOPE. I did not get a bed until 6:30 pm. They took good care of me, but by then I was so sleep deprived (I had been up at 4 am day of surgery) that I am sure it impacted my recovery. Once on the regular hospital floor (I chose a privte room on 5E) everything was quiet,, peaceful and comfortable and I finally SLEPT. The doctors, nurses and professioanl staff at Lutheran are excellent. The beds were actually comfortable and I was well cared for. However, the night staff in Recovery and SICU need MASSIVE sensitivity and team-building training. There should be disciplinary action for such LOUD disruptive behavior----it was THAT bad.

How Selected: Thru surgeon.
Comments: After surgery was moved to Recovery room. The staff there was excellent. Very attentive. At 3am was moved to a post op surgery room that was hotter than hell, the poor night nurse was overworked. I did not like the day nurse at all, very snippy, too many personal phone calls, and the wait to be discharged was torture. If you can, stay in the recovery room, better equpped, much more friendly, and very dedicated personnel.

How Selected: I didn't select this hospital. My doctor does his surgeries from Lutheran Hospital.

Comments: I never went to the ICU. I stayed in the recovery room for 1 1/2 days. The staff there were great. I was then put in a private room overnight and discharged the next morning. The care there was lacking not to mention my roomate had 10 loud visitors until 8:45pm, that's 45 minutes past visiting hours. I asked for water and was told I was only allowed ice chips. Even though in recovery I was sipping water and apple juice not to mention one of the doctors said I could sip water. Ok, whatever can I have some ice chips? I waited over an hour, asked again. I never got them so I went to sleep. And oh my god could it be any louder in the hallways. Then 2x a guy rides thru the hallway driving what looked like a zamboni, cleaning the floor.

Comments: I would never be a patient at this hospital again. The staff were unhelpful in the extreme. When I was vomiting non-stop for 3 hours due to the morphine and rang the call bell, their response was to laugh and disconnect. I had to walk at 1am to the nurses' station (not that there were any nurses) and threaten them with the OPMC and the State hospital complaints unit before I could get help. I was THRILLED to go home.

Comments: This hospital NEVER gave me a drink the entire time I was there. After my doctor ordered that I could be discharged AFTER I have had something clear liquid to drink and kept it down, I begged the nurses at the station for NINE (9) hours and the doctors who came in to see me and I NEVER GOT A DRINK FROM THIS HOSPITAL!!!! even though it was ordered by my doctor, I left the hospital without anything in my stomach at all and the IV had been removed about 12 noon that day.

Comments: The Surgeons, Anesthesiologist, and Nursing staff were all excellent.the hospital itself left some to be desired.the TV in my SICU room didn't work and the crew didn't get it fixed in 2 days. when we were leaving the hospital one of the Nurses was a little nasty. othere then that it was as pleasent as it could be!
