How Selected: When I selected my surgeon, I was also selecting the hospital - it was sort of a package deal.
Competitors: We are fortunate to have multiple high-quality hospitals in the area. This hospital, however, happens to be one of my favorites.
Comments: I enjoyed my stay at this hospital (as much as one can actually "enjoy" being a patient in a hospital, that is). I felt very safe and well-monitored. The staff was very responsive to my needs. Each day I had a nurse and a cpa to take care of me, one pair for the day shift and one pair for the night shift; some of these staff were just average (no complaints, but no compliments either), but some of the staff were simply wonderful. I was also fortunate to have a private room, which was excellent, with a beautiful view of mid-town and eastern Omaha.

How Selected: It's the hospital that Dr Anthone uses for his DS surgeries.
Competitors: My mother has been in one other Omaha hospital. Although it is an excellent hospital, I feel that Methodist is far superior.
Comments: I had a complication and was in ICU for several days. Methodist's staff was excellent in their care of me and in helping my family.

How Selected: This is the hospital where my surgeon practices.
Competitors: I came in from out of state, so I cannot compare Methodist to any local hospitals.
Comments: I have been in at least 6 hospital prior to Methodist, and this was by far my best hospital experience. The facility was very good, the nursing staff was exceptional, as was pain control. I couldn't have asked for a better place to have my DS.

How Selected: I had bad luck with Creighton so I decided to try something new. If I could have made it to Scottsbluff, I would have gone there in a heartbeat.
Competitors: So far, I have been to 3 different hospitals in regards to my sugery and this one isn't very good. It's not as bad as Creighton but not as good as Scottsbluff.
Comments: I think that they really need to improve a few things. For instance, just because I had gastric bypass surgery doesn't mean that every complication I have has to do with a leak. I had been really dizzy, my arms and legs were numb, and I couldn't walk on my own. Even though I was having no pain in my stomach, they insisted on doing a CAT scan, so I had to drink this HORRIBLE crap and of course pay for the test that found nothing. Also, the place was so DIRTY!! There was a bunch of trash and even dried blood on the floor. It was also very loud. I knew everything that was going on with every other patient. However, the nurses were so nice, caring, and understanding. The lady who admitted me and checked me out was a real witch. She made me feel like I was waisting her time. If you don't like your job, quit.

How Selected: THE DR. USES THIS HOSPITAL.
Competitors: HAS REALLY WENT DOWNHILL.
Comments: THE NURSING CARE GOT BETTER AS THE STAY WENT ON. THE DR. WAS EXCELLENT ABOUT COMING TO SEE ME AND GETTING THINGS MOVING WHEN THEY WEREN'T. WHEN I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE FROM A RX TO A MED. NO ONE EVEN BOTHERED TO CARE, EXCEPT MY BOYFRIEND. IT WAS HORRIBLE, I REALLY THOUGHT I WAS DYING.

How Selected: SURGEON PERFORMS THERE. ALSO AM AN EMPLOYEE OF METHODIST HEALTH SYSTEM
Comments: ALL OF MY EXPERIENCES WERE VERY GOOD EXCEPT FOR PRE-OP. I FELT IT WAS HORRIBLE. WITH ME GOING INTO A MAJOR SURGERY THAT HAD THE POTENTIAL FOR A BAD OUTCOME, THE LACK OF BEING ABLE TO BE WITH MY HUSBAND DURING THE FEW HOURS BEFORE THE SURGERY UPSET ME GREATLY.

Competitors: One of the best hospital experiences I've ever had. I traveled from Calif and they were very accomodating for hubby and I. We were given a private room with a chair that pulled out to a bed so hubby could stay close by.
Comments: The nursing care is excellent, with the exception of one RN. All the other nurses were sweet, caring, kind, prompt in responding to the call button, etc.

How Selected: Hospital that my doctor uses.
Competitors: I was very pleased with Methodist Hospital. It was not my first choice in the past, but now I would definitely go back. Everyone was very professional, and caring. My friends and family were also treated very well.
Comments: Nothing but good things to say about Methodist Hospital. The ICU staff and the 6South staff were great. The transport people were very friendly also. I did have to wait for quite a while in X-ray for my leak test, nearly 45 minutes in a wheelchair in the hallway, but then the test was quick. My husband took me back to my room, as they told me the transport staff was "backed up."

How Selected: My doctor's choice.
Competitors: After this particular stay, I would rate it verily good.
Comments: The only complaint that I have would be the menu items. Once I was cleared to start a liquid diet. The food was either too high in sodium or not sugar free. I was never offered low sodium broth or sugar free jello.

Comments: The only complaint I had was while the beds were oversized, the way the safty rails dropped forced you to jam you calf into the structure each time you got up. This brused my calfs and kept me from getting in and out of bed as much as I should have.

Competitors: Excellent choice. Methodist is above average in patient care.
Comments: I can't even begin to say enough nice things about the care I was given here. Totally awsome. Nurses were there at any given moment to meet my needs. There was no indication that they were too rushed or busy to help me. They told me what was happening before it happened. The ICU was awsome--single private room with a "VIEW" from a big picture window looking over the city. Nice comfortable beds on both floors. Very clean facility (I think this was a brand new area.)

Comments: I thought Methodist had a great attitude towards bariatric surgery. It is only the beginning and they need to get all the corks unscrewed and it would be a great place. I did have an emergency and the RN and Resp Tech neither could figure out what was wrong with me. The same RN seemed to have issues with the fact that I was overweight by the rude comments she made. Besides that I had the upmost respect and support from all the other staff.
