How Selected: It was the hospital my surgeon was affiliated with.

Comments: Everyone was very caring and my process from beginning to end was speedy. I was checked on often. More during the day. At night there were alot of disturbances and I had to call for a nurse several times before one came. Overall this was one of the best hospitals I have been to. I have been to several. I recommend it highly.

How Selected: I selected this hospital because this was the hospital that my surgeon, Dr. Macura, performs surgeries in. The hospital is a block from his office.
Competitors: I really liked Maimonidies Hospital. I would rate it as exceptional only they need some to remodel (the looks of the place make you think that the service may not be good) and the parking is despicable, even with the parking lot, most times...it's even full.
Comments: Again, the care and staff were excellent. The added bonus was the free car ride home if you've had major surgery, ie. weight loss surgery. I had a $30 car ride home for free. I thought that was really nice.

How Selected: This hospital is my surgeons hospital. It is also the best on I know of in Brooklyn.
Competitors: It is better than the other Brooklyn hospitals in my area.
Comments: The hospital is nice. All of the staff was friendly. I only had one incident while I was there. I needed a new gown, and was given a gown too small for me. When I asked for a different one I was told they did not have any bigger, yet I had been wearing one bigger. They finally found a larger gown for me. I felt I shouldnt have even had to ask, or insist after I was told they didnt have a bigger gown for me. Other than that experience, this is a great hospital.

Competitors: The service compared to New York Methodist which is my favorite so it definitely has my respect.
Comments: Jewish hospital located in Borough Park but is conscious of all patients needs. No discrimination based on religion. Would seek care there again if the need arose.

How Selected: i wanted dr. macura to do my surgery, so wherever he was i was...when i heard he was working with maimondies..i thought GREAT! so close to my home, i knew this hospital had a great reputation.
Competitors: well, i've been to Long Island College hospital (which i love) my experience at maimondies was excellent - the nurse was fabulous - taking very good care of me - i had an easy time -
Comments: i thought i was the only one ther :) i received so much attention, everyone was great, they took excellent care of me - in fact i went back 6 months later to visit my uncle & friend who had the surgery and my nurses remembered me -

How Selected: It is where my surgeon does his surgeries.
Competitors: I've only been in one other hospital ever and it was in another state. But I did prefer my stay there to the one here.
Comments: It is an old hospital, and it feels that way. The nurses on my unit were very loud late at night talking and joking with one another. It was hard to get rest. But it probably would have been hard even if they were quiet. The only MAJOR complaint I have is that I was stuck in "recovery" for over 9 hours after surgery because they could not find a room for me. And they would not allow me to get out of bed to walk or go to the bathroom. I was upset about that because of how important it is to get up and moving as soon as possible after surgery. And there was no medical reason why I shouldn't have been able to get up. It was just "recovery room" policy that they don'tallow anyone to get out of bed.

How Selected: This is the hospital that my surgeon does the lap Roux-en-Y at. Also, my mother used to work near the hospital and said she used their doctors on several occasions and was pleased
Competitors: Every hospital I have ever been to has been better than this one. The service from the nurses was horrible. They were often rude, and detached. They didnt get me my pump with my pain medication until almost 8 hours after my surgery. They were supposed to change my bandages every day when I was in the hospital and NOT ONCE DID THEY CHANGE THEM!
Comments: Please, if you can avoid going to this hospital, stay clear. Dr. Macura is great, but the care at Maimonides hospital nurses was beyond poor. I couldnt wait to leave!

Competitors: My local hospital is ten times better than this one
Comments: Don't get me wrong, some of the nurses were great- but others were horrible. Sometimes I had to wait a half an hour for pain medication. I don't recommend going to this hospital alone. If you have to go make sure you have a family member staying with you the whole time.

How Selected: I DIDN'T WANT TO GO TO THIS HOSPITAL BUT THE SURGERY I HAD LAP RY WAS ONLY AVAILABLE THERE AND I WANTED DR. MACURA AND AT THE TIME S.I. UNIVERSITY WAS NOT DOING LAP RY. S.I. UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL HAS WONDERFUL AFTER CARE.
Competitors: I HOPE I NEVER NEED TO GO TO THIS HOSPITAL AGAIN. BUT I WOULD FOR ONLY ONE REASON THE SURGEONS ON THERE STAFF ARE EXCELLENT.
Comments: ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT MY STAY WAS TERRIBLE. MY FRIEND HAD THE SAME SURGERY THE SAME DAY AND HER AFTER CARE WAS TERRIFIC. I WAS ON THE 8TH FL. SHE WAS ON THE 6TH FL.

How Selected: www.maimonidesmed.org My doctor performs the Lap RNY at Maimonedes ONLY. He does Open at Staten Island University Hospital. So if I wanted to be operated on by him, I had to go there.
Comments: My stay was fine. I really appreciated the fact that they allowed my partner to stay with me 24/7 - she showered at the hospital and ate all her meals in my room, and they were all so nice to us.
