There is no comparison, I live in Anniston, Alabama and our hospital can't ever touch Medical Center East. |

| They had a good baritric program and the Surgeons had excellent credentials. Also my primary care is there and I wanted all my follow ups to be at the same place. |

I would say it is in the top couple in Birmingham. There are some improvements that could be made but the staff was very good at taking care of me. |

The only real negative I came away with was the room size and set up. I had a shared shower which I didnt care for and the bathroom door and outside door were the same. The bathroom was way too small for larger individuals. It did not appear that we were on a bariatric floor because of other surgical patients being brought in so it would be nice if they were able to make a dedicated floor for just these patients and their needs. The staff was awesome and took very good care of me. They wake you up all the time but it bothered my wife more than it did me. I would have surgery here again if needed. |

I felt like they forgot about me once I was admitted in my room. The doctor order clear liquids and I didn't receive anything after my surgery and each shift stated that the last shift should have taken care of that. |

| My surgeon used this hospital as his primary location. Medical Center East was amazing before, during and after surgery. They have a special area/floor for WLS patients and treat you like royalty! I had a wonderful experience. My nursing staff was top notch!!! |

Well pleased, quick response from nursing staff. The anesthesiology team was concerned about my Parkinson's disease and did their research in hopes of keeping the symptoms under control. There were no problems with PD symptoms. Hopefully, after construction work is completed, parking will improve. |

The hospital itself was o.k. I was disapointed that after I had my surgery that no one put my c-pap machine on me in recovery or when I got to my room. the next morning my Dr. was upset with me about it. Well, I was on pain meds. and I never thought of it and I don't feel that it was my place to remember it. And I had a bracelet on that said I was not to have tape, and when I woke up my IV was in my neck,and what do you think? It was covered with tape. They were supposed to have used the paper tape. And I thought that the nurses was going to make sure that we walked 2 times per shif, well, never once did they tell me to, I just knew that I had to do it. I thought that Rona came by to see all the WLS paients, never saw her. Oh, well that is all behind me and I am doing GREAT!! |

The room was Horrible the toilet was in the corner like a jail toilet. The main door also was the door that covered the toilet so when it was covered I was exposed to any and everyone in the hall way. I feel that this was an invasion of my privacy!! The nurses also lied to my mother 3 times about getting her a cot to sleep on. I have sleep apnea and the nurses stood over my bed talking about only giving me 1/2 doses of pain med because of this and me asking them to just put on my CPAP but they didn't and I was in severe pain until the evening nurse came on duty and gave me a full dose. |

My stay at MCE was great. I was om the 6th floor, west and everyone that I came into contact with was very kind to me. Nurses were very nice and did not make a big disturbance when they had to come in at odd hours. My medicine was given as soon as I asked and my room was very clean and the layout was helpful. The nurses were very kind and accomodating to my mother who stayed with me each night. I was very pleased with they way the nurses treated me as well as others also. The food service workers were also very kind. I had a great overall stay while there. As just a point of matter, I also believe everyone was so nice and kind because I was nice to them. I realized this was my decision and the pain refelected something I wanted to do. So remembering that when I was hurting was a great way to remember they are here for us and to help us and a kind word or deed is not a lot to ask for the type of needs the nurses and staff meet for us!!!! Great experience!!!! |

Well, I got conflicting instructions from 3 different nurses on my Carafate I had to take after I went home. And, I had been using 1 drain a day since my surgery and they sent me home with ONE, supposed to last 5 days! I asked what to do if it filled up and they told me to clamp it and empty it into the toilet! How sanitary can that be.....As far as niceness goes, they were all SUPER nice, especially my nurses Ashley and Phyllis. My fiancee stayed the entire time I was in the hospital and my mom stayed the first night. No problems with that and I'm glad they stayed! |

It is about the same as others care wise(that is a LACK of good care by the nursing staff) but the facilites are greatly lacking. Some GENIUS thought that it was a good idea to save money by having only ONE door to the room! My outside door doubled as a bathroom door. Due to this ,the bathroom could be smaller. I SHARED a shower with the room next door. Everytime the toilet flushed I felt like germs were going all over my room! Then the smell got bad after a day or so. |

My first day the staff was wonderful. The second day I had to ask for my blood pressure to be taken at 4:00 p.m.--it had been high and I was concerned but could not get anyone to check it. It took one hour to get a my drain changed and one hour and a half to get pain meds! My husband had to go to the gift shop to buy a pin to pin my drain cause the staff never brought me one after promising to do it for a whole DAY! The staff is too small and a few hide out at the nurses desk rather than care for the sick. I had a elderly man next door to me that lay in bed all day with the door closed wanting someone to help him. If my husband had not been with me I would have been on my own! I plan to have reconstructive surgery but have so much doubt about MCE that I may look elsewhere. |

| I selected Medical Center East because of the extensive pre and post operative care programs they have concerning WLS. MCE and their surgeons feel education is the KEY to you being successful with your new TOOL. |

The only problem I had was they kept me in recovery for over 6 hours because there were not any rooms available. This was a concern for my family. No one actually told them how I was doing or would let anyone see me until my partner asked to speak with a supervisor. |

I love Medical Center East. It's smaller, more convenient and the staff is excellent and I don't feel I suffer any because its not as large as UAB or Brookwood |

The staff and facilities were great. The nurses were there within a few minutes of calling them and they were very interested and concerned with my progress. I would recomment this program and hospital to anyone who is considering WLS. |
